I'm very green myself, but from reading the rules I'd say get some more men. Maybe drop some armor on the common soldiers?

I agree with our "Intrepid Adventurer" ... hehehe you don't know how long I have waited to say that!

I can ASSURE you... your initial Squad will feel 'under-power' and only after 3-4 games you would start getting the feeling 'they are getting somewhere'. That is the reality of war in the 41st Millennium!

Setup for your Advantages... Korps are 'entrenchers'... so you make sure you have the power to resist an assault. They not only nullify the Kroot's Vicious Charge, but they are even BETTER! The Korps could resist the assault of Space Marines. Play to their strengths!

Captain Ryon Greystone - While this equipment is good, a Power Sword maybe an over-kill at the begining of a campaign. I would go for a Chainsword, Carapace and Helmet! That is a Save of 3+ (as well as KD protection)... later, when you buy a Power Sword, you can pass the Chainsword down.

Lt. Myles Grissom, Lt. Marina Theiss,S gt. Mikhil Vorgess, Sgt Xander Norris - Remember... Korps are entrenchers. Made to resist Assault behind cover. I would give them mesh armor, sword & Slugger combo. This could stay with you for a while! You next purchase should be helmets and then upgrade to to Flak Jackets (and pass down the Mess to Infantrymen) and maybe later laspistols.

Field Medic Lara Nacarius - This is a good choice. I would have him SLIGHTLY back. Do NOT make the mistake everyone does and send him to the other corner. His auto-pistol could help.

Infantryman Isabel Ruusen - You need MORE!!!! Forget armor, set them with just autoguns. When they 'earn' their place (Advancements) and your Officers are decked out, then they receive their 'slightly loved' Mesh.

Maybe a guy with Flamer would help you. They are fun... specially since on v0.6.0 you will be able to set people on fire!!! HAHAH!

Hope this helps.

Oh, perhaps I read it wrong. I thought that the captain could have only one rare item to start.

Well... we both have some issues. Working from memory on the other post... missed that the Carapace Armor and the Chainsword are Rare 7.

TLRB v0.5.1b, page 59 wrote:
Note that you may only buy Rare Items that have a Rarity Value of 5 or less starting a Squad. After the Campaign starts, you may only acquire such exceptional items by locating them on the field (see the Trading section for details).
You can buy items that are Rare 5 or less.

The IG Captain has several Special Rule...
TLRB v0.5.1b, page 177 wrote:
• Well Equipped: Being an Officer has granted access to a variety of wargear. Only during the initial recruitment of this Officer, the costs of all weapons and wargear purchased for him will be reduced by 50% (round down).
During recruitment, all the gear you buy for the Captain that he can immediately use, it is at 50% off. After recruitment, all equipment is at 'retail' value (as indicated on the Depot.)

TLRB v0.5.1b, page 177 wrote:
• Access to Special Gear: Squad Leaders have access to the most precious of resources when assembling their teams. Only during the initial recruitment of this Officer, the Captain may acquire any one (1) Rare item (weapon, armor or wargear, regardless of its Rarity value) that he can immediately use, by paying full its full credit value.
You can buy ONE (1) that is Rare 6 or more (that the Captain can immediately use) for the price indicated on the Depot.

You start with 700 credits... you could buy Carapace Armor (rare 7, 17 credits) OR a Chainsword (rare 7, 27 credits). You can buy a helmet (rare 3, 10 credits {your initial price!}) and maybe a Sword & Slugger (9 & 10 credits respectively). Lets say you go for Carapace...

Captain (55 credits) + Carapace (17) + Helmet (10) + Sword (9) + Slugger (10) = 101 credits
1 Lt.- mesh armor, sword, slugger 99pts
1 Lt.- mesh armor, sword, slugger 99pts
1 Sgt.- mesh armor, slugger, sword 93pts
1 Sgt- slugger, mesh armor, sword 93 pts
Field Medic- autopistol- 55pts

Subtotal: 540

This leaves you 160 points to get other Recruits. Each Infantryman with autogun costs 45 credits. That means you can get 3 Infantrymen (135 credits) and have 25 credits left. With that money, you can:

- Buy a 'naked' Infantryman. He would not do much on the game (other than fighting with his Combat Knife) but he can get XP!
- Save the cash... use it for game 2! Having 25 credits is HUGE!!!
- You could have your Captain buy Frag Grenades... they cost 9 credits each, but it will cost HIM 5 credits... so you buy 5 of them. He has to carry them on the 1st game, but then he can pass them around.

As an alternative, you could equip your other 4 Officers with Autopistols, save 8 each or 24 credits and get that 'naked' Infantryman a gun!

Captain (55 credits) + Carapace (17) + Helmet (10) + Sword (9) + Slugger (10) = 101 credits
1 Lt.- mesh armor, sword, slugger 99pts
1 Lt.- mesh armor, sword, slugger 99pts
1 Sgt.- mesh armor, slugger, sword 93pts
1 Sgt- slugger, mesh armor, sword 93 pts
Field Medic- autopistol- 55pts
x 2 Infantrymen with autorifles
x1 specilist w/flamer- 56

14pts left... I'd probably save that.

Hi Greystone,

That final list looks just about perfect and that extra little bit of spare cash will be very useful come the end of game 1. Just remember to keep your medic safe, so that when you captain gets pasted in the first game = death. he can survive instead.

Be sure to show us pics of your squad.

Cheers Laney cheers

Hey... I'm NOT picky! HAHAH! This is about fun... whatever you do that makes YOU happy, will definitely be MORE than enough for us! Besides... Death Squads has a tendency to 'change' your models. Ask 02laney! HA!
