There was no rest for the Praetorians as the Eldar did what they do best, mount a lightning strike on an Imperial held base. The target, an important landing strip. To disable it the Eldar would need to bring down the aircraft control tower. To this end 3 of them where equipped with demolition charges. They had to hurry though, the base patrol troops where only minutes away…
The Guard deploy at the downed orbital lifter on the right, in two groups, the first group of elder deep strike in to the left.
The guard hurry to occupy some good defensive positions to prevent the Eldar from destroying the tower, while the Eldar rush to attack the building. Their shooting damages the building slightly, and the exarch expertly shoots down a sergeant.
The second Eldar team deep strikes in close.
Unfortunately for them, a heavy stubber with fireteam is waiting for them.
And the second guard squad take op position as well.
The heavy stubber lets loose killing two of the Eldar carrying demolition charges. A recruit wounds another of the Eldar attackers. The last demo charge gets placed by one of the Eldar on the first team, hiding behind the tower.
The Eldar retaliate shooting the IG captain, taking him out of action in one shot. The Exarch, despite several warnings, decides to charge Sergeant Cassius. This guy is bad-ass. (weaponskill 5, toughness 4, strength 4, chainsword, fear causing…). However the Exarch, going first, manages to get in a hit, and then even a wound. But Cassius’armour protected him from harm, and as a smile spread over his horribly scarred face he hacked away, nearly sawing of the Exarch’s legs, stunning him. In the next turn the Exarch had no chance the chainsword was stabbed through his chest.
To make things worse for the Eldar the base reinforcements arrive in a chimeara (just added for coolness, it didn’t shoot or anything). The Warlock, being caught in the open also gets mown down.
There are precious few Eldar left, being hugely outnumbered. 4 Eldar left against the now 11 Guard. However the bomb is still ticking, and they are still armed to the teeth. Cleverly hiding out of line of sight they decide to focus their attention on the building.
The shuriken catapults easely ripped to the steel and concrete of the tower, and it starts crumbling. The guard rush in to stop them, only to have their point man (flamer) be shot. It was to no avail though, as the last of the fire from the Eldar sets the building on fire. The bomb going off shortly afterwards seals the deal and the Control tower is destroyed.
Air control is lost in the sector and the Eldar slip away, their mission completed, but not without losses.
The Eldar suffer horrendous losses in the post-game. The warlock is dead, the aspect warrior suffers multiple injuries (if he could have died while rolling for those, he would have died thrice, the amount of 1’s was amazing). One arm had to be amputated (but was replace with a bionic one afterwards) the other was so severely damaged he has to miss the next game. Not surprisingly, this did not sit well with the aspect warrior, and it made him incredibly nervous (-2 Initiative). Amazingly though the Exarch recovered completely form his chainsword wounds. Good thing they won to cover the losses….
The guard fare a bit better. The flamer died, but was saved by the medic (I love that guy), however the captain was severely injured in the arm and has to spend the next battle recovering (that means both a lieutenant and the captain will be sitting out the next one). The sergeant recovers without problems.
In the end the Eldar won, but the post-game seems to have favored the Guard.
On a side note, this game seems to favor me. The amount of criticals I again rolled this game…amazing.
