PostSubject: 6mm or 10mm Flames of War   6mm or 10mm Flames of War I_icon_minitimeMon Aug 09, 2010 7:54 pm

I made this a separate post so it was easy to following this avenue with out over- riding W-o-T-W's thread.

My brother inlaw and I are getting back into FoW but we want to know if anyone has played it at the 6mm or 10mm scale?

We are currently looking at Pendraken's range of miniatures [10mm]
But would consider doing 6mm with either CnC or GHQ.
there is also Skytrex with their 8mm range as well [very extensive but not sure on the infantry eg shit minis]

I've figured out the rules conversion with regards to measurement [inches to cm]

any one got pics of 6mm or 10mm figs?

thx for any help given.

Cheers

I have some 6mm infanterie and cavallery at home for the ancients period (Macedonians, Romans, Numidians) from the bacchus6mm range. The details are ok for me. I planned to order some GHQ Infanterie for BattleTech some time ago, but my plans were delayed so I cannot comment on miniatures for modern armies. But the GHQ tanks just look great. If anything, 6mm is the scale to go. Massive Tank armies in 6mm just rock (and are still rather cheap).

we have gone from 10mm to 6mm over the pass few weeks.

We are deciding whether to use CnC or GHQ.

I love GHQ tanks they look amazing but CnC miniatures are alot cheaper.

We are going to use the FoW of rules but scale everything down to make it work.

using the Hammer & Sickle book plus the Fortress Europe book as well.

I am taking a horde of T34 tanks for my Hammer and Sickle list to fight against a large German Tiger company.
For the Fortress Europe book I'll be taking a StuG company and will be facing a British armoured company.

will be alot of fun... I'll post pics once we get the minis.

I am going to be doing an Order to GHQ and litko soon.

seems these two companies have been working together [then again they may not be]
on micro flames of war templates.

these come in 1/2 and 2/3 sizes compared with battle fronts templates.

So those massed tanks battles can now happen.

if anyone one wants to add to this order we might be able to work out a U.S address to get the order sent to.

So the postal cost will be dam cheap [like $6-$10USD compared to $30-40USD to New Zealand] then we just pay standard postal services [not the 20% GHQ charges] from the "great volunteers" place to us.

the other thing is GHQ sell their armour in packs of 5 now this can be to many so by having a decent order we can pick and choose those who want some and swap and shift the minis around. [for example say i want 3x Tiger I's and Mord wants only 2x then we get one pack and split it up. i pay 3/5 and he pays 2/5 of the price. most packs are $9.99USD. and these are 1/285 or roughly 6-10mm.]

the detailing is amazing and they have a huge RANGE....

well let me know if anyone is keen or not.

Cheers

Cool tanks and nice blog.

I've just bought an Airfix panzer VI 1:76 scale (I really want allied and german armour in 1:35 scale but I haven't the time at the minute - but the old school bug has bitten). It got me wondering if I could build an IG squad or two out of 1:76 scale soldiers (£5.99 for two IG squads!) (keep the rules exactly the same - but change the scenery).

15mm is already insanely small, why would you want to go even smaller?!

Cool blog, though. Is FOW worth it? Better than 40k?

@Arachas I like FOW better than 40k, I like the rules and just really enjoy playing historical games.

6mm is ALOT cheaper then 15mm

I can buy 3x 6mm Jadgpanther Self propelled guns for $6-$9USD versus 3x 15mm at $51USD

you can see why I have gone down the 6mm path....

I got some more stuff yesterday

2x KV-1
3x JS-2
3x T-34/76
1x SU-152
3x Sd Kfz 222
2x Tiger 1E

these will be added to my Fins list and also for a heavy tank platoon of Tigers I am thinking of making. I think I can now field the following :

1x German Panzerkompanie [Tigers]
1x German Panzerkompanie [StuG III G's and Panzer IV's
1x Soviet tank company [lend lease Shermans]
1x Soviet forward detachment
1x Finish tank company
1x Finish motorized company

just due to the amount of armour I have and figs I've bought over the past few months.

still waiting for more armour to arrive from the stats..... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Hehehehe... I wonder if you could play FoW on an Alternate Earth? I mean... Germany won WWI and takes over Europe and Russia. The US sits compliant... technology stagnation rules. Then the Japanese make the 1st move (Pearl Harbor) that triggers the Japanese-American War which escalates quickly into WWII... Germans have lots of resources, but they are not into new technologies (since they won WWI) while everyone else is trying to gather resources. The Americas for the United Conglomerate of America (encompassing all countries Mexico to Chile and Argentina) and jump into the fray (they want economical and political power), the USA are seeking revenge against Japan (along with economical and political power... just like they did), Europe and Russia are looking for liberation, Japan wants to dominate the Pacific, China (aided by the Japanese) want Russia and the Arctic north (they discovered new mineral deposits), Germany is on the defensive (lots of resources, no new techs)...

WOW... Sorry. GULP. I can't avoid making stories and campaigns. Maybe some hysterical historical recreations would be fine.

mmmmm now you got me thinking how can I make a WWII game even more fun!!!!!!

by playing alternate history rather then what actually happened how about what could have happened.....

Now this is going to be interesting.... just need to figure out what lists to use and who is in the axis and allies. No easy feat.

mmmmmm

So, funny story. I was on WWPD and saw that they had a blog post on Micro Armour FOW and I was like, "Oh, I know someone else who is doing FoW in 6mm I'll check it out." Read through the post and figured I would post a link here to share. Before doing that though I read through the comments and saw that someone had posted their about their 6mm FoW adventure. And the blog name of The Grey Knight looked oddly familiar...... small internet eh?

P.S. for those of you interested in WWPD.

http://www.whatwouldpattondo.net/2010/10/microfow-6mm-fow-soviets-v-germans.html

We should get the WWPD guys to play a Death Squads campaign. I know at least one of them recently picked up a couple 40K armies.

My friends and I have been playing FoW for the last couple of years. In march we did the invasion of england by the germans.

If any one has read the Harry Turtle dove series World at war there is a great alternate history with aliens invading the planet in 1942. Planet is already tuned up for war. We are going to recreate this for flames of war using the vietnam era FoW rules. Should looking to be very interesting scenrios.

Trying to figure out what the lists would be as well.
we may try late war as we could use Germans and the US attacking the Soviets. The British may or may not join in [shrug]
