Hey all,

I've just done some ordering from two of my favourite alternative miniature companies - Maxmini and Scibor. From Maxmini I ordered some jumppacks and some steampunk weapons (axes and the like...), and from Scibor I ordered the model of the Ork in the inflatable toy (don't ask - it may end up being part of a scenery feature!) and the Egyptian SF warrior #1, with the idea of him being my SM army general...once I change the swords, that is...

However, as I was wandering through the site, I came across their version of a Space Marine Dreadnaught, and it got me thinking. I've ordered from Scibor before (shoulderpads, shields and helmets), and they've always been a little on the big side, but nothing which has looked out of place on a terminator. But this...this looks like a giant of a machine. Like someone looked at a Grey Knights DreadKnight...thing, and thought, "hey, it's just not big enough."

So I was wondering - would any one else consider using it in their army? If you did, would you bother trying to convert it? If you did, how?

Look forward to hearing opinions...

I might use the paladin as a venerable dread in my templar army. I would change the head as neither of them look very grimdark-ancient-veteran-dead-for-ages enough for me. And the weapon would need a serious overhaul with lots of different options using magnets.

That ork is awesome! I have been considering the christmas tree decorations for some time. They would be so cool to have on the tree Cool

I'd agree with that - the gun looks like a giant hoover. I'd also want, somehow, to make a change to the shoulders - the gap just looks too big.

Huh. I bought the Egyptian Sci-fi Warrior just for the swords and am still trying to figure out what to do with the actual figure (this was before you could order the swords separately). This is the only time I've ordered anything from Scibor, and the swords came with the worst flash I've ever seen on a model I've bought (in some places it was actually thicker than the sword blade). Is this unusual for Scibor's stuff? I must confess I was kinda turned off ordering anything else by it.

I think the Space Marine Dreadnought presents an interesting 'missing link' option for the MkII Dreadnought. (The Space Crusade Dreadnought has a much stronger claim to the MkII title, but personally I don't like that it shares none of the design characteristics of either the MkI or the MkIII). I'd make mine using a Defiler torso on Contemptor legs, but if you're going for a crusade-esque theme anyway, this model would be entirely suitable.

As far as scale goes GW's scale is off anyhow that it the whole reason people make true scale stuff. A Dreadnought is supposed to be large and impressive.
