PostSubject: Hey everybody!   Hey everybody! I_icon_minitimeSat Feb 20, 2010 10:54 pm

I caught wind of this project a while ago through Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum, and a I just now got around to reading through the document. My and a friend will play test Orks and Eldar at our LGS, and if others are interested, possible more squads.

Now I have a special place in my Hearth for Necromunda, since it was my first skirmish game and favorite GW product. And although i like it, the game is so attached to the setting that older projects like Necromunda in Space, and Inquisitor Skirmish tended to stall out before completion.

So i have high hopes that Death Squads will fulfill my desire to play a skirmish game in the 40k setting. I will help in any way I can by providing my thoughts on play testing. We have been playing a lot of Mordheim in the past couple years, so my ideas will lean towards that game in my interpretations of Death Squads' rules.

I will also make a detailed list of any editing errors, gray areas, and rules questions as i read through the LRB. 20 pages in and i already have plenty to discuss!

cheers Hurray for pathfinder dubstyles!!! cheers

May EVERYONE be just like you! This is what we need; people who love skirmishes that are willing to play Death Squads and give us feedback. I understand your love for Necromunda... mine (if you have not guessed yet) is Mordheim. To me, it is a GREAT game... close to perfect! The fact hat you may win the Scenario, but based on post-game results you may loose is superbly balanced... and fun! We know a little about skirmishes; Da Bank and I started this by accident (wanting to play Space Hulk almost 2 years ago!) and it evolved into this thing. Da Bank has been a rules Mod at Specialist Games for years and my www.Mordheimer.com site still kicking the can (helping whoever wants some guiding.)

Death Squads has evolved way past Mordheim, Necomunda and/or Gorkamorka... and has become a (little) monster on its own. Our game is heavily influenced on those great GW games, but we have managed to question everything (why is this rule the way it is on X game) and either clarify it or improve it to make it our own. I'm NOT implying that Death Squads is better than the other games... but it is slightly different! Necromunda still works GREAT inside the Hive (gangs vs gangs), but it breaks down when you add something else. Mordheim still perfect... as long as you play it on the City of the Damned shortly after the comet-fall; you move the timeline or place, and it seems... 'odd'. Part of our intent is to make Death Squads open in time and space... you can play it anywhere for any reason! It can be played as a skirmish campaign (my personal favorite) or as a prelude of a 40k campaign (just like Apocalypse could be a conclusion.)

The best part... is that this is OUR game! By playing and commenting (good and bad) we get to improve on the project. Not only that, but if you are enthusiastic (or crazy) enough, you can become a Contributor and help make decisions on new Rules, Squad and Item design. Rather than just playing what is offered, regardless if it is good or not, you have a voice!!! It makes me happy that you and your friend will play. On our previous play-test campaign I played Orks... I had a blast! Do not underestimate the Gretchins. There is NOTHING funnier than throwing a Gretchin at the enemy Leader and killing both!

I will be pending for your battle reports! Also... feel free to ask if there is any questions. Our pleasure to help.

And one more thing.... WELCOME!

Thanks for the enthusiastic welcome. I can't promise how soon or how often we will be playing though. I am still trying to get a decent Mordheim table full of terrain built, even after a couple of years... slow workers we are!

Our plan is to learn the rules this week and play some practice games next weekend at the local game store (LGS). They have tons of 40k terrain, but very little fantasy stuff. I don't want this to distract from Mordhiem hobbying at the moment, but rather have it as something to try in our downtime form that. I have no desire to start over with terrain building, so games will be restricted to the store!

With all that said, I do wish to help test and develop the game, I'm just not sure how much help i can offer for the time being... maybe in a few months time, when i get some current projects finished i can switch gears a little bit and focus on Death Squads more!

No problem man! The BEST help you (and anyone) can give is to play the game and post what they like and didn't like. If you have questions about rules... ask them! Not only we can help you figure out, but you will point a section of TLRB that is not clear! Very Happy

When we started playing, we used Mordheim terrain. Only recently we have been making more 'modern' urban terrain... so not to worry! The point is that you have fun! If you want to use Death Squads as a distraction... GREAT! I'm all for it... I know it will suck you in. Just Kidding HA!

Seriously, your enthusiasm and comments are the best you can offer! You may not have time to design or revise rules... but just mentioning things that you would like to see will plant the seed to make it a reality... one day! This is our 'Mordhieim Table'... sort to speak. We have been about this for almost 2 years, so we are slow workers too!

You know, i wrote but never playtested, a set of wh40k skirmish rules based on the 3rd and 4th edition rules. This was years ago, but every once and a while I tend to tweak the document a little bit.

It all started waaaaaaayy back in high school, when i played 40k, as a distraction at a tournament. Me and a guy sat down and made 300pt lists and borrowing from Necromunda, made up the rules as we went along. I took the experience and kept tweaking it over the years and ended up with a rough draft that fit my gaming style. It was designed to be a rules mod, rather than a whole new game, so you have to read them with the 4th ed. 40k in mind.

It basically allowed almost any model to be used, so there were tons of areas open to exploitation, only fluff and good sportsmanship preventing abuse.

If you are interested, i can send these rules to you, if you promise to never release them to the public! I know you researched other fan made skirmish games, of which their are many, and one more can't hurt! I doubt you can take anything from them, but if you'd like to read an old set of rules i never used, simply for entertainment value, let me know!

Sure! PM me... Smile

I will read them over, like you said, with the intention of just enriching my gaming life. If I happen to stumble on something I like, I will talk to you first before even discussing it with anyone else. Also, if we used anything, you will be credited (and granted Contributor tag).

THANKS!
