Dumdeedum's Prisoner Exchange Log Empty
PostSubject: Dumdeedum's Prisoner Exchange Log   Dumdeedum's Prisoner Exchange Log I_icon_minitimeSat Jan 28, 2012 8:14 am

Thought I would follow the trend and start my log, though I've got nothing to show, just an idea.

The first thing that popped into my mind when I started scouring my brain for ideas wasto do an ork. I've never made one before, but I've been wanting to do one for a while, and doing something a bit weird and out of the ordinary fits perfectly with them. From there and through a little bit of twisted logic I got round to thinking that an ork in space marine armour might be a pretty cool thing to try. Obviously it wouldn't fit on properly and all that, but i was thinking of cutting up, hollowing out, and just generally destroying a space marine and put the remnants of the armour on an ork. Like maybe I would cut up each leg seperately and then cut them up so that I have a front half and a back half of each leg then stick them on the front and back of the orks legs (probably with some filing down) and then connect them together with some greenstuffed 'leather' strips or something like that. And then rinse and repeat for other bits of armour.

I don't know whether asking for advice in this is proper, but since I don't know much about the ork models I'd like some help in picking which ork to have as the base. I'm pretty sure that orks are generally much bigger than the space marine models, so I'll probably be using a terminator. Then does anyone know which ork to buy? I was thinking it would probably want to be on the small size for orks and with a pretty simple pose etc. so I don't have to brutalise it too much, but anything of the right size would be good.

So yeah, thats my plan, hope it isn't too stupid, I just thought it'd be pretty cool, I just need to know which model to start on, and if all doesn't go well then I have enough time to think up a new project and my recipient hopefully won't be too disappointed.

Thanks in advance for any help Smile

Hhehehe... I got more than you... an half cooked idea and LOTS of verbal abuse! HA!

I think an Ork is PERFECT! I mean, great for your Prisoner. Not only you have been wanting to do an Ork (but maybe not a full Squad), but the models are CHEAP! You can get a bunch of Boyz in eBay (from the AoBR box set) which gives you plenty of bitz.

Your idea of putting the Ork on a Space Marine Armor is WACKY! HA! Very Orky... I say you try it! It IS ambitious and will push your skills... but Orks are crude builders, so the models does NOT (and should not) be perfect. You have some wiggle room. Your idea of hollowing armor is pretty cool. I would do it that way. I would add some metal sheets. They love that!

The trick to pull this off would be the paint. I suggest you paint the Armor blue (Ultra Marine fail!), and make it dirty (some wash) and rusty on the 'cut' parts. Maybe you could paint (SLOBBY PAINT!) the shoes red (as you know... RED GO'S FASTA'!!!)

dumdeedum... this is YOUR log... you ask as many questions as you want!

I suggest getting some Boyz from eBay. At a glance, you could get "Warhammer 40k - x20 Ork Boyz - Slugga & Choppa, Big Shoota x2 - Plastic AoBR" (LINK) for $20... those are LOTS of Orks! Or you could buy just the bitz for one or two random Orks SINGLES (LINK) for $3 (you could get the SM the same way).

I don't think a Terminator would be good for the 'joke'. You want the Ork to look way to large for the armor... UNLESS you plan to make a Meganob... but that is a different matter.

Your idea is BRILLIANT! How do I know? Take a look...

Sounds indeed like a sweet idea!
Everyone's got so much cool ideas, I'm going to wait 'till I know who I'm going to make a
Prisoner for. I want to make it as much "tailor" made as possible. Smile

Really cool idea. Space marine armour would be a decent size on a regular ork boy. I would just order the bits individually if you are only planning to make the one or see if you can get an old unpainted marine and ork from a local friend.

I LOVE the idea. While perhaps not as pronounced as their Goblin associates, Orks have a rather tenuous hold on reality. I could imagine one of them, perhaps after a good shot to the head, not just getting dressed up in Space Marine armor, but, actually believing he was a Space Marine...with all that chanting, litanies, & other forms of corpse worship.
At any rate this will be a fun thread to follow. I also think you should check out the bits stores; it probably won't be as expensive as buying a box...plus looking at all the bits might also prove to be inspiring. What a Face

Well I've got a ton of old space marines, both normal ones and a couple of plastic termies, so when I head back to uni tomorrow I'll bring about 5 of each up just to be safe.

Does anyone know of any decent bits stores in the UK? I'd rather not have to buy a whole box, just a couple of boyz would be good (I'll need more than 1 because I'm quite likely to accidentally destroy a model a little too much).

Continuing the idea, I was also thinking I might give it a tonne of purity seals, like it collects them, or some other suitable space marine/imperialesque thing. Maybe lots of spacemarine heads/helmets on a piece of string or something like that. It might get too cluttered though if I do that so I'll have to see what the boyz are like size wise, I'm still basing everything on ork guesswork.

Another question for all of you, since my ork knowledge is pretty bad, is there anything that might be good to include, or to omit, item wise or paint scheme wise? Mord mentioned red to go faster. Are there any other little bits of knowledge that would give the model more character?

Thanks for all the comments, I didn't expect this much enthusiasm for the idea, but I like it Smile

Thanks for the links, they look like good websites, but unfortunatly they dont seem to have an ork legs in stock which kind of makes it a bit more difficult. I'll keep shopping to see if I can find some cheap boyz.

HAHAHAH!!! Forget doing a 'regular' (tactical) Space Marine... make him a CHAPLAIN!!! Just in case, a Chaplain is (LINK):

Quote :
Space Marine Chaplains are the spiritual leaders of Space Marine chapters. They are also warriors, and live and fight alongside their battle-brothers. In battle they are frequently found in the fiercest fighting, chanting the Chapter's sacred battle creeds, and inspiring their brethren to further feats of bravery. They are spiritual leaders as well as Marines, which means they fight with as much savagery as any of their brothers. To enemies they appear as terrifying and sinister figures in black power armour and skull-visaged helmets.
Converting your model... SAME principle (they have Power Armor) but paint a SKULL (orkish, of course in the face! Here is a Chaplain I painted long time ago...
Dumdeedum's Prisoner Exchange Log Chaplain%2B-%2B01

Now... can you 'envision' your Boy like that? Blue on the base of the Shoulder Pads (the left one with the Ultra Marine symbol) and maybe some blue on the knees... tada! An Ultra Marine Chaplain's Power Armor. The Skull Helmet... skip it. Just paint a skull on his face. Something like...

Being a bit short on cash (I went about £300 over my £200 allocated) I won't be able to afford to buy any orks for a while, but come march I should be able to buy some and have the project back up and running, but until then this thread is going to have to be on hold Sad

It has been a while since I last posted in this, but I'm finally starting to make a little bit of headway with my project. Thanks to a certain someone I now have all the parts I need to make my model Smile and I might also have access to a camera in the near future (alas there is none right now, so sorry for the lack of pictures with this update).

My idea has potentially progressed to more than just space marine armour, but a choice of armour all with magnets to allow a wardrobe of sorts. I'm not quite sure how this would play out but I found a tau crisis suit and thought why not convert it into a 2nd suit of armour for this lucky ork? That hasn't started yet though, what has started is the hollowing out of a space marine's leg, but unfortunately the 1mm diameter magnets I had ordered to go with my 1mm drill turned out to be 2mm diameter and so won't fit neatly into the holes I have drilled and so I need to buy me some more magnets and hope they get it right this time (hopefully it won't cost me too much).

i can say what I have done so far looks good on the ork, so hopefully it won't disappoint when pictures eventually arrive. Smile
