Subject: Gothic Horror...in a silly sort of way. UPDATE 11/26/12 Wed May 23, 2012 8:40 am
My Spooky Woods Project will be going Gothic. Although I'll still be adding elements to the Fantasy Thread, I figured I's start a new thread for the Thingies I'll be knocking of for either the Empire of the Dead or Chaos in Carpathia Rules.
AND NOW some photos of TRULY ASTOUNDING MEDIOCRITY. This little RAFM Spooky Lady is the harbinger of Things Gothic yet to come:
Herself from several angles:
Intimidating the local Flora:
As always your kind commentary would be GREATLY appreciated...kind of.

Awesome, it reminds me of Nightmare Before Xmas.
Very cool and very neat.

Thanks, Da Bank! The Nightmare Before Christmas & The Corpse Bride with some Addams Family all seem to have influenced my view of Gothic Horror. &

Those bloodshot red eyes are creepy! I haven't seen that on a mini before.

Thanks MUCHO for the kind commentary, Guys...glad you like her. I figured I'd keep the Gothic Horror stuff separate from the Fantasy Thingies in the other thread, although there is quite a bit of overlap to the beasty. There will be lots of West Wind & Wyrd (Malifaux) pieces going up here...maybe. @Narcissus: I did the red-eye look on Von Kurst the Scarecrow:

The red eye takes on a different dimension in a more human figure. She looks really possessed. It is a very nice effect. I will look forward to seeing more Wyrd models from you.

WOW! Keep posting in one thread... this IS the ultimate WIN! The lady looks creepy... her face is not 'smooth' yet not 'scarred'... and then the eyes!!! AGGGHHHH!!! Screw it... if I were one of those trees, I learn how to move and run away!!!
I can imagine her in a hallway... AGGGHHHHH!!!!

Thanks, Mord! It's annoying that the Camera from HELL! manages to pick up imperfections that are not visible with the mini in hand.
If you'd prefer the photos in one thread, you could do the merge thingy.

As I threatened, the Failed Experiments (West Wind) are now completed AND are about to be inflicted upon you. Those of faint heart or discerning taste may wish to cease viewing now.
The Monsters:
While I doubt these Guys would hangout together under normal circumstances, they've agreed to pose for a Group Portrait:
Your commentary would be WILDLY appreciated.

Needless to say... you never fail to impress! From the silly to the grotesque... WITHOUT being morbid or explicit. Kindda like Alfred Hitchcock and Psycho's Shower scene...
Did you know that Alfred did NOT used blood? In B&W, blood looks black. Instead, he used... Bosco Chocolate Syrup! LINK

Ace looking monstrous creatures in the deafnala style - what's not to like.
The models themselves are very cool - would be great for breaking out the old Ravenloft AD&D stuff from back in the day. My only criticism is that I'd like to see the skin tone as a little more human fleshy if they are failed experiments of the frankstein's monster type (but the ears and jaw suggests orcs quite strongly).
Favourite - the guy on the right - he is genuinely upset about his situation! (I worry for his mad/obsessed/brilliant but flawed creator). Do we get to see him or her soon?
Cheers Laney

Thanks ONCE MORE for all the kind words, Guys. I've been a bit down, & you've supplied a jolt of motivation.
Mord: the latest take on Hollywood Horror is that gross = horror. Horror is more than gore. It's a sense of the surreal; that things are not quite what they should be...& what's that lurking in the shadows, hovering on the edges of my vision?...this works even if the subjects are somewhat cartoony. Of course some lightning bolts, claps of thunder, & B Horror Movie music go a long way to creating the mood...BOO OOH OOH!
Laney: for these Guys I used my standard Zombie skin coloration...they look more waxy yellow in real life...such as it is. There will be some variation on future Creatures. I ran a reasonably successful Ravenloft Campaign in AD&D 20 or so years ago. It might have influenced The Project.
Gatlag: everything has to be somewhere even though Texas is verging on nowhere at all. I figured I'd put the Gothic Horror part of my stuff separately from the Fantasy. When I start putting up Steam-punk or War Machine, I'll probably open up another thread for that in this section.
In the meantime, here's a Werewolf for you:

AND NOW those Ghostly Creatures I warned you about:
A Group Shot of the Whatever in Black:
A couple of other Restless Spirits:
As always your commentary would be most welcome...mostly.

I like how you take all of these different models and tie them together?
How did you make the bases on the "Whatever in black"? Do you have any unpainted pictures?

Thanks Narcissus...sorry it took this long to get back to you. I make the "ground" on my bases out of plumber's epoxy putty; it's very similar to Milliput. I just put on the desired thickness & sculpt it...it this cast its paving stonework. Once it's dry (about 15 minutes), I add sand for an earth effect with watered down tacky glue. Then I do my normal white over black prime & it's ready to paint. I'll put up some W.I.P. photos with the next patch.
