PostSubject: Greetings from a New Recruit   Greetings from a New Recruit I_icon_minitimeSun Aug 05, 2012 11:04 am

Hello,

My friends and I have been playing Mordheim for a couple of years now. I've got well over 100 games in. Recently we've been gripped by the urge to adapt rules for 40k (since Necromunda seems unsatisfying) and that's where you all come in. I'm really looking forward to reading your rules because I was starting fresh on my own to fashion this rule system. I'm hoping to just embrace your design, I'll let you know what I think. Thanks for taking the time and care to put this together.

-Andrew

Salute Welcome Brother rhoaran!!! Salute

I hope you like Death Squads! I have some experience with Mordheim (hehehe... Just Kidding ) and I think is a fabulous game. We had lots of inspiration from Mordheim and Necromunda, but our game is a completely different game on itself. It is more open than Mordheim (restricted to The City of the Damned after the comet crashed) or Necromunda (restricted to Hives and inhabitants). The game will allow you to play in any place and time. The rules don't change or stop making sense because you are playing in Cadia during the 4th Black Crusade or in your own planet.

Starting from scratch is a pain in the duppa... if I had know, I may have never picked it up! HA! The fact that you ever consider it tells me that you are eithe a genius or are completely insane. Since I don't know you yet, I will be inclined to the ladder. You are MY kind of people!

I suggest you read TLRB and play a few games with the rules as written. Ask questions about why and how... we will tell you! There is not problem on that. Sometimes the discussions will make sense and you will understand why we design something the way it is (and leave it alone), sometimes you will point out something that clearly shows that we have screwed up (yes... it happens) and we will incorporate your suggestions and sometimes we just agree to disagree (and we are all happy). The best part... if you want, you can actually join the Staff and MAKE changes to the game happen. If you are part of the Staff, you have a voice and vote... the same as everyone else, regardless how long they have been with us (including Developers!)

Above all... this is about having FUN! Enjoy the game and share your experiences. We love PICS!!! Wink Oh... and welcome to YOUR new game!

Thanks all. You do roll out quite a welcome mat.

Since you love pics...
librarium-online.com/forums/imperial-guard/129807-heavy-weapon-conversions.html#post1195320.

I couldn't post a direct link as I'm a new member. I love modelling
and my brother-in-law does a great job painting so it works out nicely.
What I loved about IG in 40k is that you could relate to their
experience despite how fantastic the hardships they faced. This is
embodied by the first model with the wounded soldier. That conversion
represents what I want out of my gaming experiences within the 40k
realm. The scale of Mordheim allows you even better perspective, so I'm
looking forward to playing Death Squads. My group is considering
playing 'Only War' roleplaying game which I encourage you to check out
if you haven't already.

Upon a cursory glance at Vol 3 - squads, I
was little disappointed not to see some army types but I know that this
will change and perhaps I can help develop squads. Since I was
beginning to create a 40k-mordheim for my group, I started with warband
design so I have several ideas. I'd really like to see Tau
firewarriors, Tyranids, Marines (including chapter specific rules),
Inquisition, and add additional IG regional platoon rules. Also, my group
wanted the inclusion of light vehicles (rhinos, sentinels,...), I'm sure
this is a topic that has resulted in a fair amount of discussion already.

But for now I'll keep reading and my friends and I will commence playing.

Thanks again for your commitment to this project.

@Rhoaran

Welcome to the group.

Death Squads was birthed from Mord and myself from Mordheim. As Mord noted this is not Mordheim in Space. LOL. The game has evolved and there are several unique variables to the game but familiar enough for those who have played Mordheim or most of the other GW games.

I am familiar with Only War and am currently working on small campaign that involves the background information for 11th hour from Only War.

http://www.deathsquadsgame.com/t2853-scenario-11th-hour-wip

Maybe you can chime in or playtest the scenarios (once we get them ironed out)?

As you noticed there is more room for squads, Tau, Nids, Marines and etc. The unfortunate part, there is not enough time in the day to keep them done. As Mord noted, maybe you can help out in time with being part of the staff. At DS everyone has attempted to make the squads as fun and balanced as possible, that is why every race has not been pumped out as it would be great to have them all but if the squads are not good or unbalanced then it would truly take away from the game.

As noted, read over the rule book and see how this game has unfolded and hopefully you and your crew will like it.

Thanks for joining the group.

I have a basic Tau squad written up from over 2 years that I could send you but to warn you they are very much a WIP. The Nids would be great and in fact was the very first squad with IG for the first game of DS. Yes, it is true. From that one game between Mord and I many many years ago the game has evolved.

Well, Rhoaran... few comments on your comments. HA!

1) I was unable to see pics at the Librarium... Sad I don't like to be teased! Hehehe... all in due time.

2) Death Squads will definitely give you that personal feel you are craving for. I would suggest to read the Battle Reports. I won't drop names... too many to mention. They share great stories, based on the GAMES. Which I learned is weird... many games try to recreate stories (historical facts or sci-fi) written by someone else with a game, rather than letting the game create a great story based on YOUR experiences. Mordheim is an awesome setting, but how many times can you recreate the moments after the Crash of Sigmar's Comet? Our game will allow YOU to create any setting you want. Can be a doomed world, or a post-apocalyptic survival, or a military campaign, or a Xeno invasion, or commercial sabotage... you create the setting, the game will support its development.

3) Only War? Hmmm... interesting. Any links to share with the rest of the class? Would love to check it out!

4) Our project is an always ongoing. We have been working on this for almost 4 years (YIKES!!!) Currently we are working on a new release; lots of changes under the hood and lots of new stuff to help the game move a little faster/easier for the noobs. New Squads will be easier to introduce; Adeptus Arbites and Tau will make an official appearance. Eldar will have a complete re-write (yeay!) with more Units. Space Marine Scout Squads (SMSS) and Space Marine Chapter Squads (SMCS) will soon follow. After that, we will introduce other races such as Inquisition, Necrons, Mechanicus and Genestealer Cult.

5) The Tyranids will probably enter as one of the last Squads (Broods)... the math on them completely breaks the mold, and we need to have all other Squads in place.

6) Do not expect the inclusion of heavier vehicles such as Rhinos or Chimeras. This is a small skirmish, not a small army game. It is pure game mechanics. We could (want) to introduce at a later time light vehicles (such as bikes & buggies) but venturing to far into mechanical monstrosities would change the game dynamic. For example... what chance do your Kroot have against a Rhino? Our game balance starts with the Guardsman... and every Squad stands a fair chance against each other. This is a critical component to make any game fun. If we design something that is an obvious 'must have' then we either tone it down or remove it. Every equipment and Unit should be a 'hard decision'... makes for memorable games and experiences. To be honest, if you want to play with some Rhinos, play 40k with 750 points. Allow each player to take up to 2 vehicles, no more than 75 points each (no freebies). Once most of the Squads are in place, then we can venture in a Vehicles module... so groups like yours could add some 'wheels' as an optional add-on.

If you have comments... PLEASE let us know. We need to know what great vets like you think!
