Narcissus' random models

And now for something completely different... A red space marine terminator!

This was an attempt at using my airbrush to speed paint a model. I wasn't too concerned about it being perfect. It took me 2h 20 min start to finish, including basing.

I entirely airbrushed it to this point:

The airbrush control is amazing!

Decals on the shoulder pads would improve this already wonderful model.

Hahaha. Thanks Mord. I see you have moved it to its own thread. Not a bad idea as I am tempted to do a series of airbrushed terminators for different chapters. I like that termies have some nice open surfaces for airbrushing. This video inspired me: Buy Painted youTube.

Only thing, I'm struggling with too: the spray on the eyes are a little ... spread out?

But as a speedpaint, its better than most 'normal' paints =)

Nice glowing effect on the eyes. Yeah, maybe a bit too spread out.

I actually like how crisp you managed to get the embossed eagle on the chest. Was that sprayed as well?

The eagle was based with bleached bone by brush then washed with Devlan mud then highlighted quickly.

The shading you've achieved with the base colour is really good and I can see how squads could be finished like this really quickly and look very effective on the table/display cabinet (very tempting). I'd like to see a few more details finished off - maybe an edge highlight, the chapter icon and the skull on the right hand. The eyes might be pulled together by a thin blue wash and then an ice blue/white spotlight.

On the chipped sections of armour - a bright orange works well underneath the brown-grey (charadon granite) chip rather than a bone colour.

All in all a good model.

I reckon you could do something really special with space marines and your GS skills if you picked a single chapter to work on. I think blue armour would look good done this way.

Thanks Laney. I did definitely forget a few little details. I agree with the chips. I didn't really think through all of the steps.

The eye glowing would be better done with a brush. I wanted to try it like this because if it worked it would be really easy to do on lots of models.

Up next I am planning a space wolves terminator as I am really looking forward to trying the blending with a grey scheme (no baby blue!).

This colour scheme also really made me want to try a word bearers army....

Here is a Space Wolf painted with similar techniques.



The model is an Assault on Black Reach terminator with a fur pelt added.


I airbrushed the armour and yellow parts (by masking using sticky tack).




I then painted the other details by hand.


Lots of battle damage.


I had some issues with the spray this time, so the blending on the back is pretty spotty.


This model took 3h 30 min from start to finish (not including assembly and priming). Comments and criticisms always appreciated.

Today I decided to take the yellow on the Space Wolves model and apply it to a whole model. So I painted an Imperial Fist terminator.



No conversions on the model.


Almost all of the shadows and highlights are done with the airbrush. I did do a small line highlight on the face using a regular brush.


Decals are a pain. I finally got this one to look decent by airbrushing some dirt over it.


I think this one has the best face with better eyes and some line highlights.

Comments and criticisms appreciated as always. All the comments after the first model really made me work hard to improve them. You can see the evolution through the three models. This model took me a long time due to airbrush clogging issues. I airbrushed some of the new base colours and they made a bit of a mess. I'm going to put a tutorial on how I painted this Imperial Fist on my blog tomorrow. I can cross post it here too if anyone is interested.

Impressive work! WOW!

On the decals... use decal softener. Dozer was the one that educated me on this product. AMAZING! Easy to use too! While you put the decal in water, brush in some decal softener on the spot you want to put the decal. Then put the decal as normal. Once in location, tap with a paper towel (to remove excess water) then apply more decal softener. DONE! The softener "melts" the decal plastic, so the wrinkles smooth out and the decal... "hugs" (sorry, English failing me today) the surface.

Trust me... you will look at your first decal with anger, as you blame it for your burning passion to re-do every decal you have ever put in a model! HA!

The highlights on the Imperial Fist... wow! Between the lights and your technique... AMAZING!

The tartan was a new technique for me

Beautiful bit of work Narcissus - excellent OSL (particularly as it is against a lighter armour colour). nice, subtle use of the verdigris technique on the weapon and the tartan is just superb! It makes me feel really bad that I haven't done any painting or modelling for almost three weeks! In fact, I now have two models (due to little boys) that are less 'complete' than they were three weeks ago...
