REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand Empty
PostSubject: REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand   REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand I_icon_minitimeFri Oct 26, 2012 8:17 am

Corintus was panting as he ran towards the old sanctum building that had been converted to a bar. He knew Arachas would still be exactly where he left him. Coming up behind Corintus was his squad - Arachas' squad - and four decoys that were to confuse Sturmm's men in case of an attack.

The square stretching out in front of the sanctum was covered in early morning mist.

REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand 2012-10-26094541

"There he is," said Commissar Gaius, who was coming up next to Corintus. The Commissar was right: Arachas' form could be made out, just outside the door to the sanctum. He was leaning against a lamppost, obviously smashed from drinking amasec straight till the morning.

Corintus gestured his men and the decoys to get into place. Casting a forlorn look at his old comrade, who clearly did not have the slightest idea of what was going on, Corintus led two of his best shooters up into the sanctum. They would provide cover fire from the upper stories.

REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand 2012-10-26100730

"So far, so good," remarked one of Corintus' shooters. Corintus gave him an annoyed look, but said nothing. He thought it was bad luck to be so optimistic at the onset of a mission. Not two seconds later, a burst of fire erupted from the tall building to the east. In a spectacular display of blood and gore, one of the decoys was shredded to bits.

Then everything was chaos.

"Secure Captain Arachas!" called Corintus out, who took aim at the figures now emerging from the mist on their eastern flank.

"We've lost him, sir!" called out Lieutenant Kassad from down on the street. "He just disappeared into the mist!"

"Emperor damn it," cursed Corintus.

"FORM UP! ESCORT ALL THE TARGETS!" barked Gaius, who was across the plaza. He cocked his boltpistol and looked at the nearest trooper. "I'll move up behind you, son... it's for your own good."

REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand 2012-10-26101027

The trooper gulped and did as he was told. The squad feverishly lunged forward to secure the targets, they themselves now unsure which of them was their former Captain.

"Good," said Gaius, overviewing the squad following his orders by the letter. "They are moving in the right direction... for now."

The tall building to east turned out to be Sturmm's main firing base. Before long, death erupted from the windows and Rapier Squad had to dive for cover. Despite the volume of fire, however, Sturmm's squad seemed to be suffering from Stormtrooper Syndrome again (or a rough night with Sergeant Barbie, who was notorious for her insatiable lust even amongst the Cadians).

REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand 2012-10-26100739

Sergeant Quintus, hoisting a plasma rifle, took a hit square to his helmet and was flung backwards. Gaius grunted, but looked down and found the bullet had bounced off harmlessly. Ignoring the temporarily downed trooper, he directed Sergeant Hoyt to secure one of the targets. Hoyt was summarily hit by stubber rounds and was knocked off his feet.

REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand 2012-10-26103126

From their position inside the sanctum, Corintus and his men tried their best to keep Sturmm's men at bay. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, Corintus concluded. The remaining targets, hopefully with Arachas amongst them, were herded off the battlefield. It came down to him to buy them time to retreat.

REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand 2012-10-26103145

Recruit Locke, up on the second floor, took a sure shot and managed to down Sturmm's sniper, Sergeant Bilko, in a skillful shot. The return fire made him duck for cover. A story below he heard a muffled cry. Glancing over the side of the building, Locke saw his Captain slump to the floor of the balcony. A grinning sergeant Barbie, her gun still smoking, could be seen across the street.

Back on the east side, a cry suddenly went up from one of the troopers. His target was making a run for it. Commissar Gaius stood poised to break cover, but as he analyzed Sturmm's firing lines, he realized the target - he couldn't see if it was Arachas or not - had just unwillfully committed suicide. Sure enough, several moments later the target was ripped to shreds by stubber fire.

Well, at least Sturmm knew what he wanted: only a dead Arachas would do.

REPORT: Arachas' Last Stand 2012-10-26105350

They would soon know. Lieutenants Kassad and Silenus skillfully guided their targets from the battlefield, while recently promoted specialist Sultus did the same.

Realising they had secured those targets they could and that he was now in charge, Gaius led the retreat off the field. Leaving Sturmm with two bodies and a chance at revenge... or not.

---------

A ruined building, two kilometres down the road from the battle. The Lieutenants hoisted in the targets, but the look on their faces said it all. Gaius cursed inwardly as he inspected the men themselves. All three of them were decoys. That could only mean one thing...

The next moment they heard bolter fire coming from the direction of the battlefield. It almost seemed cheerful, for everyone knew that squad Sturmm was firing off rounds to celebrate their kill and vengeance. Corintus, alive but wounded, sat against the wall and sighed.

"It is over," he said. "Arachas, hero of Aeterna... is dead."

Gaius said nothing, but turned to the western corner of the building. There sat Renegade Sergeant Bilko, already tied to a chair.

"Don't worry," said Gaius. "It's personal now."

Excellent battle report - just luck of the draw at the end it seems Arachas (or do I call you Corintus or Gaius now?).

I really need to rope my brother into a few games (maybe even a campaign).

Assassination is my FAVORITE Scenario. It is so freaking cinematic! Could you give us a brief of post game? Your terrain... wow... I will start dreaming about it!

Planet: Semper

City: Aeterna

Location: somewhere very near The Plaza

“Turn him over”, Sturmm ordered. The body lie face down on the bloody ground, still bleeding from unnumerable wounds. When it was on its back Sturmm grinned: “it’s him”. Captain Arachas from the Cadian Rapier Squad would not live to fight another day anymore.

Rapier Squad, despite of having a Commissar and clearly a new Captain, made another fast retreat as to bring their protegees into safety. Squad Sturmm however managed to kill two out of five possible targets. One of these two turned out to be Arachas. He had run straight towards the renegade squad.

“Bury him. You can eat the other one, but you bury Arachas”. Sturmm looked around and turned to the squad’s preacher. “Judeas, see to it and shoot whoever tries to take a snack from Arachas”.

And while a few troopers started digging, Brutus and Barbie returned to rejoin their squad. “No sign of sergeant Bilko, sir”. The enforcer reported. Sturmm looked at sergeant Barbie who just shook her head.

“Hmm, you may continue looking for him, but it’s my guess our poor old sergeant Bilko is lost”. Sturmm took off his helmet and stroke his bald skull to wipe off the sweat. “Permanently…”

All that stood listening knew that if Bilko had fallen into the hands of a Commissar, he would not return.

Though Sturmm had what he wished for, a dead Arachas, he somehow felt that this was not the last to be seen of Rapier Squad. This would be far from over...

Post game: well besides somewhat disappointing improved skills I guess Squad Sturmm did pretty good. Awesome moment when Arachas (may the Dark Gods have "mercy" on his soul ...) rolled a five and a six for determining which model was the VIP and I did the same!! So we had to roll again and I proved to have killed Arachas. This, and Arachas' face (priceless!), completely made up for my otherwise terrible D6 rolling. Laughing See you guys next time!

I rolled 11 for determining who had the VIP. ELEVEN! Considering my opponent, that was a sure win...

... and he rolls 11, too. F*CK!!

We re-roll... and he wins out. He rolls 1's and 2's the ENTIRE game and now he rolls high. Little Frustrated

I gotta say though, Mord: the scenario might be cinematic, it's also kind of boring. The defender starts out near the targets and has to drop on the attacker from the get-go. The only reason Sturmm managed to get anything out of this game, was that he simply started capping targets, instead of capturing them!

It was a fun game, don't get me wrong... but not my favourite scenario, by far.

Eleven. 11, that is sort of two 1's in one D6 roll also, right? (hehehe ...)

Sorry, not funny! LOL

Capping instead of capturing: yeah, sure, I wanted him dead. Squad Sturmm's rule number ... (whatever): don't play with the prey.

Well, it is also how you play the Scenario. The defender starts out near the targets, so you need to shield them and move 'em quickly.

As per your suggestion, the Scenario was tweaked so either Officers or Recruits can take control of the Targets. As a Defender, your objective is to move the Targets our of LoS and eventually out of the battle zone. It is about being smart (rather than sacrificing your men) and save the Targets.

I would suggest to increase the rewards for moving Targets out of the table (a.k.a. capturing them) to add another level of complexity.

It will be VERY hard to call you Corintus now... ahhh!!! Hehehehe
