It's a good idea with a treshold of some sort so we can avoid the story from skavenslayer to repeat itself.

And just in case I can make an extra prisoner again if someone messes up.

@gatlag-yeah, he's serving me well, though his big game debut didn't go we'll as he ended up on the losing side.

A threshold of 50 posts or so would help ensure people who sign up are invested in both the site and the exchange. And sitting pretty on 100 posts means I can get to join in! As for making the deadline, it is a matter of discipline, something we should be able to do!

Criteria are a necessity to avoid the issue Skavenslayer had. As Mudboy said already - I'd happily paint up a spare model for anyone who missed out.

As for meeting the deadline - I need to crack on with the LGW kitbash competition - I've got a squad to build yet!

I agree on some post / time criteria. But time is not a good one, as I stalked the forums for about half a year before getting into the community.

But again - it could be a good kickstarter to participate, but then again again, the ones who have allready participated (in the forums) should be the one's to trust and reward with a great event and cool mini's from around the world.

I play and got a play Cadian, Cultists and Orks... but nevermind, I diddent finish my own prisoner either, my point is more that having to send a model to someone not using the forum activily, is no fun either... What I find interesting is to have someone wainting and wondering, not a feeling I got from my recipient...

This hole thread has made me want to go back and finish... everytime I look at the half finished model, I feel very guilty Embarassed but there have just not been any insperation left...

I had to say that I had a blast creating my model last year, and even though things didn't went as I planned I would do it again.

I've just joined this forum (I stumbled on it searching for other peoples kit bashes *kit bash competition*). And I'm a fan already in two days. I absolutely love this prisoner exchange idea and the idea of my model being in another country, appreciated for what it is, and not what it isn't, is awesome to me. If the guidelines are voted in, just make the join date after today, and I'll hang out in painting/modelling to prove my worth. I'd definitely participate if I was allowed to.

littleducky-I think the concern last time was just that some people joined the event who did not have a connection to the forum, and then possibly did not ever post any models. Start posting some work in the forums! Everyone is friendly and you will quickly be incorporated into the community.

It's pretty neat, for sure. I've got mudboy's diaroma from last year in my office, still!

But yeah, just hang around, post some cool stuff, participate... we'd be glad to welcome you in the Exchange!

Hey, this event is what caught my eye about the site in the first place (I was semi-interested in the skirmish scale game as well). I have a way to go before I hit 50 posts but once once I do I'd like to get involved. If you are talking end of February my count may not issue by then anyway.

I like odd modelling projects more than I like army painting anyway so participating would be a enjoyable. A theme would be really cool. It's nice to have a general direction to head in and then have a lot of latitude creatively to get there.

Themes are interesting - needs to be wide enough to not hamstring creativity though.

Anyone got any ideas?

Some from me...

  • Duel (two minis in a battle) - they would need to be useable in the game.
  • Nemesis (this guy or girl is a nemesis character - maybe to one of your squads or just a big bad evil bloke!)
  • Leader (speaks for itself).
  • Non-combatant (maybe not enough scope but could be fun).
  • Wishlist (create a character for a Death Squad you would like to see happen!).

Cheers Laney Very Happy

"Last Detail"- A prisoner and their escort. I'm not sure how it works (host army is prisoner or captor) but it might be a variation on the duel. Plenty of narrative potential in a "scene".

I really like the idea of a non-combatant. Off the top of my head couldn't think of a force where "everybody fights".

I's suggest this one because it would be a nice mesh between the sender and recipient. It would give the modeller/painter the chance to look at their own army in a different light (vunerability as prisoner) and allow them to think outside the box and imagine a character from the recipient's army. As a set piece you have a fusion of the two forces that represents the bridge between hobbyists that the exchange is all about (maybe not the part about the waterboard though Very Happy).

A theme could indeed be nice, although I also liked the idea that you are creating a model that the recipient can actually use in his squad/army. The servitor I've got from Laney for example will be a part of my Regulars! Smile

Personally I am not sure about a theme for this event. Doesn't it work somewhat against the idea? It's supposed to be about making something for someone else, trying to come up with something interesting and doing it in a way that's new for the creator (at least a little bit). Having a theme can set some standard and I see some benefits from it, but I am afraid it could be rather restrictive and it would overweight the benefits. But maybe it's just the way I see it and I am totally wrong Wink

Themes can be set but one can always skip it and do what he wants, if that would mean that the creater came up with something interesting and did it in a way that's new to him, I bet no one would frown upon that....

As noted by the last two posters, themes are great but if we do run this leaving it up to everyone's own creativity is easier and simplistic.

I do like the theme idea but sometimes that will cause people not to join as certain themes suit them.

I agree that themes can be fun but like Da Bank mentioned some themes will turn some people off the idea of entering as it does not suit there style or likes.

let each person entering the event decide the them of their own creation.

I would totally like to get in on a PE. I've been following these threads for a while now, and I love the creativity and inventiveness of the models that come out.

I had not seen this thread, but knowing the prisoner exchange was in the works, got one done today. I have a second guy going but can't figure out how to deal with one arm.

As has been said, I love building the mini for someone else.

I need to go browse the FAQ and rules.

Sooooo.... this kind of slowly died off again. I'd like to get it going again. Mordheimer is not really around to kick start and organize things. So here is my idea:

Let's have a prisoner exchange where we each build a prisoner and post progress and pictures up on the forum. At a set date all of those with completed projects would be sent a message with the name and address of their recipient. This avoids the issue of having people not complete entries or people that say they will participate and then are never seen again. Each person who completes an entry will post out their model and will receive a model from an unknown person somewhere in the world.

I will happily be the organizer of things if needed. Thoughts?

Is anyone able to send out a general email as Mord used to do or does only he have those administrative rights?

Post here if you are interested and will participate.

With work I did on Scarface this morning, I am nearly done with him.  the other two I posted pics of are very close to done also.

I would participate in the exchange, have even thought of finding another way to send mine off to several of the members here for one from them.

I can't commit to doing mailings though.

As always, I'd be interested. I was just looking at the prisoner I received, and remembering fondly the work that went into the prisoner I sent off. It helped push my skills, and I'd be interested in doing another.
