PostSubject: Hi everyone   Hi everyone I_icon_minitimeThu Apr 15, 2010 2:44 pm

I'm Matt, I'm 21 & I'm from England.

I first got into Warhammer when I was about 12, kept on with the fantasy version until I'd nearly finished building up my Brettonian army...then GW re-released all the miniatures in that range & I became rather despondant & gave up for a while.

After a couple years I moved onto Mordheim & thought it was amazing, since then I've always favoured games using skirmish rules. I think being an occasional D&D player's added to that preference. I love being able to see how a certain character develops and improves itself, rather than just being a rank & file slog with a whole army. I played this until I started collecting the LOTR miniatures.

LOTR took a backseat during my A levels and a few bands I was involved in...then my job...but I started reading 40K books during my lunch breaks, the first was Angels of Darkness by Gav Thorpe, I've loved the Dark Angels Chapter ever since. I've been reading the Gaunts Ghosts omnibus lately and I've become quite fond of the Imperial Guard as well.

I'm hoping to start collecting GW miniatures again & base any Death Squads around the Dark Angels (hope the Space Marine rules aren't too long a wait! Wink ) until then I'll probably go for Imperial Guard.

I'm not overly good at conversions or modelling with Green Stuff, so I'd appreciate any advice you guys could give me Very Happy

Welcome nice to meet you,
Since you like mordheim so much this should be perfect for you. Its a great skirmish game, My first Army in this game were the Imperial guard, I used catachens as the chapter, and so i played a couple of more games and got hooked on Death Squads, that happened i had to get more armies so i got Orks, and that last on i made were the Imperial renegades, which are really fun, and as for converting i did my stuff with out using green stuff for exp my catachan sniper i just used some spare pieces that i found in all my stuff and it game out pretty good
Hi everyone 34rfyc0

on the other hand i have used green stuff before but very little to make wires on my ork weird boy

Hi everyone X0nz28

But any way welcome aboard, the forums have cool guys that im sure will help you with any question you have.

Welcome friend!!!

I understand exactly how you feel! I like the cinematic feel that Death Squads can bring to my 40k stories. I LOVE Mordheim (as if you could not guess by my nick...) and back in the day I created a site to help people play the game (www.Mordheimer.com). I played 40k's Kill Team (40k 4th Edition) but compared to Mordheim, it was not very good at all.

Death Squads is a true communal effort; many people from around the world pitch in in the area of interest and expertise. Many ideas are good... but some a just plain BRILLIANT! Very Happy The best thing about Death Squads is that the game is about YOU.

You are a veteran on skirmishes... so no point on me going to the ubber basics. Among Developers and Contributor we have an un-official rule... Do not fear anything! Get some IG guys from your buddies and do simple conversion. Forget the green stuff for now. Change heads, pose models... paint and have fun. The natural progression would take you ahead.

Sculpting with Green Stuff requires some 'fearless' practice. Start with filling gaps and making hair and fur. Then add little things. Not to hijack your welcome thread...
Raw model...
Hi everyone ChaosObjectiveB-15

Some hair and gap filling.... simple to do!

Finished model, with luscious hair!

This is Chaos Sorcerer I converted and painted for a friend several years ago. He 'opened' a portal to the Warp to summon a Chaos Hound... only after suckering a Blood Angel Space Marine! Muhahahah! It is all magnetized... you know, smoke and mirrors. Smile

The point is... HAVE FUN! Cody's conversion is so simple that makes the model looks superb! I'm looking forward to read about your adventures in your battle reports and checking out your awesome models! cheers

BTW... how did you got a hold news of little us?

Welcome!

You read the 40K novels like me. Yea!!! I love Gaunt's Ghosts, Chapias Cain and all the other IG Novels. Those novels had a major impact on my thought process with Mordheimer on doing this project.

Can't wait to hear about some battlereports and or pics of your work.

Mordheim is a great game.

Good to hear from a fellow Brit - Welcome.

This is a great game if you like Mordheim and skirmish in general. You may have noticed its pretty friendly - any questions just ask!

Da Bank has got it dead right with the Ciaphas Cain novels (I haven't read Gaunt's Ghosts though - any good?) they are genius. The Imperial Guard Omnibus with 15 Hours, Death World and Rebel Winter is a cool insight into the IG as well.

Cheers Laney cheers

Wow, wasn't expecting this many responses this quickly! hehe

I've tried a couple conversions on a few imperial guard models...sorry about the bad quality (mobile phone pics)

Hi everyone Commisar1

This one's fromt he LOTR game, from a few years ago, replaced the weapon in the right hand with a club from the Mordheim Mercenary sprue...
Hi everyone UrukHaiFront1
Hi everyone UrukHaiBack1

In the past, I found that drawing pin/thumb tacs with the pin section removed make for pretty good looking shields, especially after painting (they're just about the right size)

The sniper looks pretty awesome, wouldn't have thought about basing them on a tree stump, that's a good idea (plus I have some of those trees around here somewhere =])

I recently got hold of a copy of the 40k rulebook (with the kill team rules), but I felt that it was lacking the level of detail I like in games of that scale. It's coming in useful mostly for painting tips & scenery ideas for now.

Mordheimer, that Chaos sorcerer is amazing! =] & I like the magnetised idea, I guess that could make parts interchangeable if you wanted to?
I've had a go at a few simple Green Stuff things, but I never thought of trying hair, will have to give that go =]
I found out about Death Squads via google...lots of searching around for experimental rules I could add in to Kill teams to try & make it better, found you guys and I was really impressed, signed up straight away =]

I've got the Ciaphas Cain novel Hero of the Imperium on the go at the moment, just finished the Gaunts Ghost novel The Founding...& started The Saint (I tend to read at least 2 books on the go at a time...an old habit I can't shake off lol)
Gaunt's Ghosts novels are a little different to the Ciaphas Cain ones, rather than being written from one persons perspective it's more like a standard storyline, following groups. I've yet to find an author that can describe a combat scene like Dan Abnett, he is truely amazing!

Your pictures show that yo have the right stuff! Check out Laney's models... WOW! He likes putting Frankensteinian bitz together... they look a little weird, but the paint always makes the parts fit like a glove. I don't play LoTR... so I would have lost a bet... your model looks flawless!

Your IG are great candidates for either Imperial Renegades (IR) or even (coughs) Rogue Traders. I tell you... those Mordheim sprues can take you places! HA! I agree with you that Cody's model goes to a whole new level of cool... just a simple stump and some basing. Not even painted, and this takes a nice cool factor award. It is SO dynamic... I can see the Catachan Sniper saying "Hold on Sarge... I got 'im!" BOOM! Hehehehe...

IMHO, if you never play any skirmish, and only 40k, Kill Team is not half bad. But once you tasted Mordheim and you understand the potential of a skirmish... Kill Team is a pure disappointment. Maybe not for the type of player that you are (you and Da Bank are cut from the same tree... skirmish all the way, never touch a larger size army!), but for the 'regular folks... skirmish games are THE perfect learning medium! I personally was NEVER interested in playing anything else than Necrons and Tyranids. Now, after tasting Orks... the WAAAGH! lives in me! My Catachans (The Eye Pokers) are a source of pride and once I make some Kroot I will start teaching people the true meaning of Fighting Cocks (I'm Puertorrican, so fighting rosters are normal for me)... HEY! That wil be the name of my Kroot Mercenary Squad: The Fighting Cocks! Thanks MathiasDark... you are an inspiration already!

Thanks for the kind comments on the Sorcerer. I will post more pics on its own thread. Smile You could change legs of the Space Marine... designed to piss the opponent off! HA!

Well... remember that Death Squads is YOUR game now. If you find something you would like to improve, is confusing, would like to be added, etc, etc etc... PLEASE let us know. The work takes some time to complete, but we are constantly working on this stuff! Smile

heh cheers guys & glad I can be of service =]

I think another reason I like skirmish games is I can treat each model as if it was its own character, rather than them just blending in with the rank & file (I tend to get a bit bored painting the same thing over & over).

I'm thinking of not forming any Death Squads just yet, see what the new goodness in the forthcoming TLRB gives us (I love the sound of the Space Marine Scouts!) & it'll give me a bit of time to get on with making a few more models unique.
Usually with Mordheim, I'd set up about 3 warbands, just in case anybody wanted to play a game but didn't have their own. I'm thinking Orks, Imperial Renegades (never tried any chaos conversions before!) & the Space Marine Scouts.

Slightly off topic, I managed to find buried in the dusty vaults that are my room, a copy of "Space Crusade" by MB/GW, so many pieces missing it's ridiculous but it's nearly as old as me & 2nd hand, so I can't really complain. There's 1 or 2 pieces of older models in there, including a rather beaten up Space Marine torso...expect to see this one in an upcoming Death Squad =]

There's an old Heavy Bolter or two in there, some spare bolters with bayonets...even a badly painted old necron =]

Sweat! I love Nid cookies all the yummy reconstitued biomass. Yum Yum.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but they won't be in the next update. They will begin being worked on the next release. Start playing some games now and get very familiar with the game and who knows you could be involved in helping them out.
