PostSubject: An old 40k Gamer Returns   An old 40k Gamer Returns I_icon_minitimeWed May 26, 2010 2:32 am

Hi All,

Well I stumbled upon this forum thanks to a fellow gamer on here sending me updates about Deathsquads. Needless to say when I gamed 40k some years ago I left it because of the......(ok I don't need to go into that here).

So anyway my first skim through the rules I was very impressed with them.

It seems there is a growing community out here in NZ that are talking about setting up and organising a campaign for it. Even better one of my mates now owns a shop that stocks 40k.

So I thought I would pop in and say hi, any gamers from Taupo that are hiding here that want to try and get a group started PM me.

I look forward to the future development of the rules and additional squads.

If anyone here has any input on what to start with, what the strengths and weakness of the different squads are I would greatly appreciate the input.

How big do you play the game, as I have not read through the rules completly yet.

Thanks in advance

hey Rusty30 you made it.

I am going to NICON now regardless if I get a display table or not so we can catch up over that weekend.

As for the size of the games you have between 3- 17 minis on average some squads can get up to 20 but most are 17 or less.

there are some restrictions [eg how many officers you can field.]. Like the Imperial guard for example you can have 0+ infantry but 0-1 Ogryns. same with Eldar 0+ Guardians but only 0-5 exodites. On top of the Squad list you can have Special Characters that are squad designed and then there are the hired guns that can be added as well. [NB: this can take you up above the squad maximums]

As for what each squad is like I can only comment on what I have played so far. Due to the fact you have only 700 credits your squad will feel under powered and low on man power. this is Ninja designing [Mord's Favorite saying] this will simulate the "green" squad as you progress through the games they will grow and become better skilled/equipped.

Orks
are tough to hit due to their high toughness. not to good with shooting so Ork boyz should be geared up with a pistol and close combat weapon. Give the shootas to the Kommandos as they have better BS. Also the burnas are good as they don't need to use there BS to hit you. The Orks also have the Trash-kan an hilarious contraption that will either have you scowling or splitting your sides laughing. If you play orks take the Sneaky Boss he is great. also don't forget about the grotz either they have a part to play in the Ork squad as well.

Eldar:
Haven't played them yet but my squad is almost together [still have to paint it arrgghh] max out the exodites, over guardians. Infiltration and lasguns are a good combination. you can choose from Dire Avenger, Striking scorpions or Howling Banshees. Warp spiders, fire dragons and dark reapers are not in the list [issues with them fitting into the game. warpspiders = teleportation, Fire dragons = no meltaguns in DS, Dark reapers= no missile launchers in DS.] they can be fast and have good shooting and close combat.

Imperial Guard:
you have a good range to choose from and decent weapons. pitting your only humans.
you have the normal Imperial weapons and equipment. its the specially designed squads that make the IG fun. from the Cadian shock troops to the Mordian Iron guard each offers the player different tactics and strategy.

hope that helps you.

===================================================================

Hopefully after NICON we might have a campaign set up for us all to play. We could get Kiwi and his lads to fight out amongst themselves but their results could impact on the campaign we play [eg a New Zealand wide campaign we all play at the same time as each game is played the battles front changes and the balance of the campaign can change drastically.]

we can talk more about that when we catch up end of next week.

NB: I'll bring my Adeptus Arbites with me so you can see what I have been working on as well.

Good to see you here now that you are here your going to find it hard to leave... Deathsquad for life now bud.

Cheers
LGW

BTW: welcome to the Death Squads forum board.

Rusty30, WELCOME!

I'm glad that our little experiment brought you back to gaming. Just Kidding Like I tell everyone, Death Squads is YOUR game! As you start reading and playing, you may have questions and suggestions. Let us know! Ideas are welcome... nothing is left behind (although some thing take time to implement!) The game has become a great community effort from fans (noobs and vetz), and we are very please you are joining!

Fell free to use the Opponent Finder and Calendar to organize your games! We are looking forward seeing your battle reports (PICTURES! Yeay!) and other stories from your adventures. As for developing... suggest you play the game, get to know and understand the basic rules first... the you will see how new ideas fit in. Smile

Again... welcome! Death Squads will take over the world... and apparently it will start with NZ! Just Kidding

Isn't it the little island at the east of Africa? You know, the one they based the cartoon movie on?

Just kidding... I have even a worse problem, nobody knows where Puerto Rico is. At least New Zeland is over 100,000 sq miles and can be seen in a map without the aid of a Microscope. Puerto Rico (were I am from) is 3,500 sq miles and is a DOT... funny part is that both countries have almost the same population (4 million). Suspect
