| Advertisements for Warhammer's new boxed set have been sent out on the internet and I have a few questions. The picture shows high elves vs. skaven. Is that going to be the matchup in the set? I also noticed that the picture shows a doomwheel, screaming bell, bolt throwers, rat ogres, and even a dragon prince. Will the new set have any of that stuff in it at all? Or is this just a marketing trick? There is a lot of controversy over games workshop's tactics of making the rules require more models so you have to spend more money to stay competitive. I won't go that far because I don't play competitively and I am just fine using older models and older rules, but I would like to know what's in the box? | |

| Yeah because what they are going to end up doing is making a Apocolypse version for regular Warhammer and that is just redonkulous.
And rules like that just make people buy more models but fact is they can do it and they will nothing much you can do about it. If they sell more models they will get more money and the more money they have the more plastic models they will throw our way. Because they are more expensive for them to produce.
So in a way they selling more models is good for us except we have to pay for them. I am not a huge fan of fantasy but the very fact you need so many models to play both Warhammer Fantasy and 40k is the exact reason Death Squads is here. Max you got in a squad to start off with is about 15 models in comparison to the 50+ you need for a game of 40k. And once you have that whole big bunch of models they bring out a new version you must have and you go out and spend more money. Or the horrible realization that your army sux when you get them all painted and get to field them. dumb

| what i hate is the empire minitures which has shrunk to only 10 minis per box rather then 20 which is annoying cos it costs twice as much | |

| For me Fantasy is just a source of cool conversion parts - but I do one day dream of painting up a skaven army (at my painting speed watch out for it sometime in the next decade or two), especially now they are not all fur, but skinny fur (I love the new models - but my heart sank when i saw how difficult they would be to paint!). Just so long as it is at black reach prices for lots of stuff - but £30 for stormvermin is a disgrace! That's why Mordheim should be played, but would benefit from a new edition to iron out the issues. Trouble is GW don't seem to see the benefit of investment in the 'specialist' games - I don't get why they don't advertise or sell this stuff in their stores (along with a select line of forgeworld bits). Blood Bowl is one of the best games they have ever created, Mordheim is top notch, not to mention the others out there. I would be quite happy if they ditched Lord of the Rings (love the books, love the films - would never play the game, because it lacks creativity - who wants to play Gandalf - I want to play my own creations, I don't even like playing people who use the stock characters from the codexes - why play Marneus Calgar, when you can play Chapter Master... who is much cooler and yours) and replaced them with a specialist games section (including Space Hulk - which will never happen now of course! - good job I got my copy). Sorry for the wandering thoughts! Cheers Laney | |

| Laney is right... if they focused SOME on the Specialist Games, they would definetly expand the range of sales. Many veterans do not return to gaming because they know they have to invest large $$$... if they had a skirmish (updated Mordheim, Necromunda, ) they would recapture the vets... who eventually would jump to the larger games. | |

| Having worked for GW in the past I can tell you a simple truth about their sales philosophy. They do not give a damn what the veterans buy. Specialist games, units, squads, tanks, war machines, terrain, castles, towers dice, paint or even books. They concern themselves with "core sales." There are 6is items they really worry about selling. The 3 boxed set starters for Lord of the rings, Warhammer 40,000, and warhammer fantasy battles, and the 3 independant rulebooks for those games. They know that veterans are going to come in and buy a new codex when it hits for their army, or if new squads or units, etc... but veterans are guys or gals who have played for a long time. they also know that most players drop most of their money on the game in the first year they play. So they focus on selling rulebook and starter sets to new players and try to beef up those players armies. I personally started just after the rogue trader era and have lots and lots of old models for my dark angels that i still use. I could go into the store before i was employed there, and know going in what i wanted/needed. new players would be in awe and get upsold constantly. they would go in for a b or c and come out with all of those plus d e and f. My boss had a deal with all of his employees. sell 10 core sets in one week and he would drive us to the battle bunker and let us pick out a "kilo of metal."
So I wouldnt hold my breath on too much hope for specialist games releases. As much as I love the small skirmish games, they just historically dont support them for long. dreadfleet is gonna go away pretty fast, i think. much like Gothic did, or bomberz over da sulfer river, or any number of other games.

| they dont like games that dont require lots of models.
take man o war. once you had your fleet that was it, no need to buy any more. Same with both necro and mordheim, and especially true with blood bowl. Still have my orcs along with a cursed blitzer (but thats another story...) and my firt 1000pt 40k army only had 7 models back when you still had wargear cards.

| Laney seems to be my spokesperson on this as I completely agree with him! I'd really love to see LOTR gone from the stores! Use the space for the great games! But like eyerone here alreadys know, that'll probably never happen, we just will have to cope with the new Hobbit game that will appear when it the movies... | |

| Well, when the LOTR movies were hot and heavy, GW signed a 10 year long liscencing agreement. so it may happen one day. | |

| They may have already ssecured the hobbit, but if the game isnt a big seller, then i think you may see it go away when the contract is up. | |
