Im planning on building a Trash Kan from scratch (possibly to sell maybe to keep not sure yet)
This is kinda more of a fun project for me so Im really looking forward to it.

What do you guys feel is a good size for the base Kan portion of the model? Film canister too big?

Here is my Konsept Sketch.

Nice concept!
Only arguable point are the legs. They seems a bit long. Have a look at the GW Killer Kans. Their legs are about half your size.

For a body core you can use a GW paint. A friend has done his Killer Kans that way and they have a good size.

VERY COOL! I REALLY like your concept sketch...it has a Tasmanian Devil quality to it. One of the things I like is that it DOESN'T look exactly like G.W.'s take on the Beasty.
For the body go with whatever feels right to you...I've used wood craft barrels myself. Micro Mart has some 2"ers that are hollow, if you want to go in for some interior detailing.
I, for one, am looking forward to whatever you come up with. Have FUN with it! What a Face
