| So this is my first proper post on the Death Squads forums...go easy on me! Love the Forge World DKoK models so here are a couple I've done for my death squad- sorry about the slightly dodgy photography. Here are some regular guys with hellguns And an engineer model to mix it up a bit(plus he has a cool little shotgun) And finally, an ogryn with buzzsaw (raaaaaaar!) I've been working on, apologies he's not finished... So yeah, it's a start anyway. Any comments/ suggestions/ not-too-vicious criticism is very welcome! | |

| Excellent work! Hugely effective paintjobs, ace colour scheme, well executed (especially the wear and tear on the armour). All very good - though the engineer is my favourite (I love those models, just never got round to buying enough of them!). The Ogryn looks cool (you don't have any WIP shots at all do you - to reveal the sculpting secrets). My only criticism, is that with your skill, painting in the glass of the eyepieces (possibly that burnt orange you've used elsewhere - saw a great 'eavy metal painter who'd done that) would really add something extra. More Please! (Oh, and welcome!) Laney | |

| TUTORIAL ON THE BATTLE DAMAGE!!!
Ahem... sorry. Dang it, I love your models. Did you shell out the cash for these FW babies? I try hunting them on eBay, but they always go for tons of cash. I like buying models, but I have limits, haha...
Could you teach us how to do the damage? It looks so awesome. And your pics are fine, btw. | |

| By The Emperor's Uvula! You got some mad skills, Mrmorello! You will find that when it comes to critique, we are merciless... hahaha! No. We are a bunch of sissies! We will call them like we see 'em... so compliments are reserved for those who deserve it.
Your models are ACE! You have excellent brush control. Many may have missed it... but THE DUST! That is what really blew me away. WOW!!! That is so hard to do... amazing! I agree with everyone that the color scheme is VERY good! Super palette choice! It is dark, but not black... dusty, but not dingy (like they are still trying to keep their uniforms tip-top clean! ) The armor scratches is RIGHT ON! Too little would be crap, too much would look stupid. All scratches seemed different width... that is dedication! The Ogyn really seems to be earthquake-proof!
My criticisms, and they are stupid things really... The ground is brown and it seems to blend with the boots too much. Seems a little of a waste of detailing (on the boots). Maybe a little of blue-grey (Fortress Grey)... to keep it dark and neutral. I would also suggest a little of 'scorched' static grass. Not too much, but to make slight points of eye 'diversion'. Since it is that dull golden brown, it would make the model more 'real' without taking importance to the model. Last... the goggles. If you are going for the look of Omayra Sánchez, then your DKoK freaked me out as much. If you were going for a more traditional (non ) look... I think Laney has good options!
Finally... I will 2nd Arachas cry for TUTORIAL!!!!
| Omayra Sánchez: This is the amazing 13 year old girl, victim of the 1985 eruption of a volcano in Colombia. She was found early on, but she was trapped under a flooded region full of concrete, metal, toxic volcanic ash and other debris. Besides being told that she could not be saved, she struggled for 3 days... encouraging Rescuers never to give up on other victims. She died within an hour of this photograph being taken.

| The Death Korps look great. I am always blown away by what fantastic sculpts they are. The seem to draw in good painters too, as I haven't seen many poorly painted Death Korps (must be the price!!!).
I like the black eyes as I think it give the soulless look that really represents the army. No man is an individual, just a number.
How did you paint the dust? I am painting some Death Korps orks just now and I haven't been able to effectively paint dust on them yet. Are you using paint or weathering powders?
Keep up the good work! | |

| Thanks for the comments and suggestions chaps, will do my best to incorporate your feedback into the squad! Narcissus- I've achieved the dust effect by drybrushing lots of layers of regular GW paints, building up to a lighter colour at the edge of their coats. I've found that the key to getting a realistic-ish effect is using a fairly big, soft brush and not too much paint. Blobs of paint and visible brush-strokes completely screw up the dust effect. But I'm no expert, that's just what's working for me! On the topic of price BTW, here in Japan, many regular GW models are more expensive to buy than mail ordering Forge World! Great excuse to get some DKoK! Gatlag- The buzzsaw is all made from layers of plasticard, cut into various shapes, apart from the motor mechanism. That's made from a random part of a WW2 armored car, and a multi-melta from a leman russ battle tank. | |
