What's up, guys!
Way back when I first joined, I posted these guys:
They are still some of the best models I ever did, in my opinion, though they were never fully finished (squad markings and whatnot). I've tried a gazillion other schemes on my Guard and have always come back to this one. So that's that! I'm going to paint up a decent squad.
My experience with Death Squads so far has given me some more insight on what works and what doesn't when it comes to models, their equipment and their appearance (read: I wasn't happy with my current squad when it comes to those things). Sure, I could have just gotten new models (in fact I've got still got a half-done Urban Fighter squad lying around, composed of AT-43 and ForgeWorld IG parts), but as a new business owner it's just not in the cards just yet.
So I've been breaking out the ol' knife & greenstuff.
First off, I redid my Captain. This guy used to have a power first, but by now I know I dislike power fists. Instead, I stuck a bolter on (which he DOES use, from the start). Obviously WIP: the greenstuff is still messy and so is his lower body (trench coat converted from a High Elf archer and some GS).
One thing I've always struggled with is attaching swords to my models. Some it always looked weird attaching them to the backpacks or belts. Then it hit: duh, swords usually have scabbards dangling from their own belt! So I introduced that on my Captain, but also on this completely new Lieutenant (comprised mostly of FW bits):
Another thing I'd always wanted to try and never have is a proper autogun conversion, that can still double as a cooler weapon as the campaign progresses. I stole the idea from this Lieutenant's gun from Warseer:
Finally I came up with a new sergeant. In my experience, sergeants always to have something of a badass look. The rifle-arm is one of the coolest FW IG bits there is, in my opinion. Combined with a sword (this time not dangling from its own strap, because I apparantly glued it on pretty firmly, earlier on...) this guy can last a few games.
I also rebased all the models, because through the years there have been a myriad of experiments going on involving those bases. I wanted a more uniform look. I'll be cleaning all the excess greenstuff up and start painting, once I get around to it: first I still have a very special Kroot to paint, hehe.
