Well maybe not really, but from Scandinavia anyways.

Just wanted to say hi, as I've been introduced to this game/forum by another one of your posters (Nixon). I read some of the forums & rules and as soon as someone mentioned that they got inspired by the old Realms of Chaos books, then I my interest was piqued.
I remember reading the Warband section of the Realms of Chaos books and thinking that's how I'd like to play 40k.

So anyways, hopefully I'll get a chance to try out Death Squad with some locals sometimes soon. Atleast I rushed out and threw some money around to build a IG squad. Partly based off of DKoK and partly off of Kill Zone concept art.
I sort of wished I had the money to throw after some Forgeworld DKoKs, but I think coming up with conversion ideas and bitz hunting is fairly entertaining too, so it's all good. Now I am eagerly waiting the postman and trying to chow through the rules bit by bit.

All in all, I wish you the best of luck with the project, it sure seems thorough and well done so far.

Chaos Welcome, chilled (former) Battle Brother! Chaos

It is always a good day when we receive the visit from someone who also enjoys the rich background that 40k has, but has been slightly forgotten! I can't wait to read what stories you can come up with and... OF COURSE... see your conversions and painting! As you have seen on the Painting section (as well as on the 40k & Fantasy sections), we have a bunch of GREAT hobbyists around. We have seen people grow their own talents here, so we would be thrilled (and honored) to see your progress! Although the FW models are awesome, I know you will enjoy converting all kind of Squads (and so will all of us! Wink )

Welcome home... Death Squads is also YOUR game now!

Welcome aboard.

If you like the FW Krieg take a look at these guys:

http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/alien-suns/shock-troops-sci-fi-greatcoat-troopers

I picked a box up from eBay a while back, but it looks like they're back in stock, hard to beat that price. I plan on using them for Urban Fighters or maybe Arbites if I ever find a group.

P.S. Sorry for not doing a proper link, I'm posting from my phone.

Thank you for the welcome.

And concerning the Wargames Factory greatcoat troopers...I looked at them, and I was tempted, but to be honest, I don't like the helmet/head and they seem a little "inanimate" in their pose. But I haven't seen them in real life, so maybe I'm wrong on that. I was also really tempted by the Pig Iron Production militia greatcoats, but with the fact that they're all metal, I thought it best to go with plastic for conversion options.

So far I'm planning on making my troopers out of hodge-podge of bits from various kits:
Grave Guard legs
Cadian Shock Trooper torso
Pig Iron militia heads
Pig Iron backpacks + GW ork & IG packs
Magnetized Cadian arms + weapons.
My ogre is going to be a Privateer Press, Warlock Gunnbjorn* with his head converted to match the Pig Iron heads. (plus some other minor conversions)

I'm going to paint them either horizon blue to match the french/belgian WWI uniforms, or grey/black to match the Kill Zone concept arts. I'm leaning towards the Kill Zone colors, but not set on it yet.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out - It might be disasterous, or it might be cool. I'm hoping for the latter.

*I later found a better substitude model - The Jagganat Heavy from Studio McVey. But maybe I'll buy that at a later point.

I can see what you mean by inanimate, but I figure that can usually be solved by finding unique ways to pose them or simple conversions. Personally I'm not a fan of too much 'motion' in a mini, I always feel they end up looking out of place. When the motion fits the scene it's great, when it doesn't it's just weird.

On the topic of their heads there are actually more options in the actual sorus then I remember seeing before I ordered them. There are the Killzone/Helgan like masks obviously, but there are some broad flat faced masks (not very many) and IIRC enough heads that are fairly mutated and would let the minis represent an Imperial Renegades squad, I'm toying with the idea of using IG rules with them and doing a counts as for a Chaos squad similar to Dan Abnett's Blood Pack or Son of Sek.

The minis are affordable... maybe you could use them to 'bulk' your Squad. You may get the FW Command Squad (I think they are 5 models) to use as your Officers and then the ones from wargamesfactory.com for your Recruits.
