YEAY!!! I got me a game last Saturday! Today I managed to unpack some of my terrain and hunt me my Orks. I picked some IGs and headed for Earth 383. The plan was to Demo the game for J.R. and teach him the mechanics (he is a 40k player, so it was going to be easy.). Although J.R. had to leave in an emergency, another guy (he just moved in town) filled his shoes. Richard had never played 40k, but still decided to try
... and he learned QUICK!
I created a basic IG Squad, with a Captain, a Lieutenant, 5 Infantrymen and one HWS. Everyone armed with Lasguns, the HWS with Flamer. Captain had Save 3+ and Lt Save 4+. All Recruits save 6+. I played Orks; a Nob, a Sneaky Boss, 4 Boyz and 2 Gretchins. Nobody had armor, but everyone had Clubs. The Gretchins had Grot Blastas. The Scenario was SKIRMISH for 7 Turns. The objective was to kill each other... errr... to teach the mechanics.
Enjoy!

It had been a boring few weeks. All was quiet in the city and patrolling the non-functioning sectors in Melkor was a real drag, but it was better than being sent back to Cadia. Captain Marcus had just earned his rank, like many others... almost undeserved. His men were barely old enough to be called that and for the first few days they all looked up to the Captain for security. As time passed without events, the men grew bold and boastful. The day started as routine as any other. Sector 43 would change their lives in few moments.
As the Servants of The Imperium confidently walked, everyone heard loud noises. In comparison, the Guardsmen acted like stealthy agents of the Officio Assassinorum. Whoever was in this area was moving debris carelessly. How could this be? Servitors were not scheduled to arrive for a week! Suddenly everyone froze at the sounds of the loud gruntal voices. Orks? Could it be possible? There was something on the far end of area. Captain Marcus' face changed when confirmed the Green Skins at the distance with his the digital binocular enhancements.
A small group of Ork survivors could prove deadly under the right conditions. They needed to be exterminated. Their presence s disproved the official communication that Melkor was free from the Xeno. The last group of Orks seemed weak and disorganized, so this group could provide a nice entertainment and training for the men.
The Captain Marcus knew that his Guardsmen needed to investigate and take control of the situation fast; he sent them to take firing positions on some ruins close by. Some men froze in their tracks, but few warning shots from his Lasgun were enough to wake them into action. Everyone started to take defensive positions. After they were at higher ground, Marcus ordered the ladders destroyed. "
Orks can't climb! Shot on MY command!" All the men nodded and as they readied their Lasguns.
The Ork advancement was relentless. It was obvious that one of them seemed bigger, but his tone was somewhat more pale than the others. It was known that The Albino was dead, so this was just another insignificant matter to the Captain. All of the Green Skins seemed almost feral, armed with crude (even for Orks!) clubs, and they wove them in the air like they didn't... well, you know; like if they really wanted to smash someone's skull.
As the Orks got closer, Captain Marcus noticed that a Burna Boy was leading the charge. Stupid Orks! He ordered his own Heavy Weapon Specialist to unleash the flames of purification upon him. "
Let's blow up some Green Skins! Private... show 'em The Emperor's Light." The blast of flames left the defended
impromptu bunker and engulfed the Burna Boy and the two Gretchins in the group. Everyone screamed in agony dropped unconscious, but the Orks did not seemed to mind. The Guardsmen saw that the Burna Boy was trying to get up so they started shooting him with their Lasguns. They shot him over 12 times, but the fallen Burna Boy was still trying to get up besides what it seemed like mortal wounds. Imperial shooters in another building tried to take other target, but their efforts were in vain. The Ork's had a tough hide and at such long range, Lasguns were ineffective.
The Orks continued their advance, as the ones laying down got up without problems. One of the Boyz seemed eager to climb up a building, but was quickly put down by Captain Marcus. The Ork seemed like it was still alive, but his concern was to slow the others down. A couple of the larger Orks tried to get the Gretchins to throw them over towards the defensed building, but the little guys had plans of their own and wiggled out of reach. The little
pistoleros took out their Grot Blasta, in complete disregard to their OWN safety and opened fire. The screamed "Put out da' flames!" and shot the Guardsman with the Flamethrower. Curiously enough, one of the Grots seemed to be wearing a Space Marine Mark VI helmet. It must had be working, because the shot from his gun not only hit the target (an improbably feat on itself) but blew up the human's head... literally. The headless body plummeted to the floor, trapping the Flamer with the weight of the dead carcass. The Grot took his own helmet off, jaw wide open in disbelief. He looked at his weapon and grinned. As he danced a little dance, in complete disregard to laser fire flying everywhere, he say "
Me got me a gud wun Boss! Tall ya'! Dis 'ead bucket is da shitz! Me kill humies for ya!" The other Grot turned blue with envy and pointed his gun at another Guardsman. He closed his beady eyes and clutched his teeth while he pulled the trigger. After he heard the sound of his Blasta, he opened his eyes and saw a Guardsman clutching his chest and falling dead on the spot. He also looked at his toy gun and grinned "
We be da' best shootas eva'!!!!" as he joined the other Gretchin on his victory dance.
The Burna Boy stood up and seeing how the Grots were making kills, he decided it was time for him to teach the humans how wonderful their own burned flesh smelled. He saw the Ork Boy struggling in the floor near the building. If he opened fire, he could burn too. A brother in arms could be hurt by his actions. "
Ohh, well! Dis will teach dat idiot not to stand in front of me Burna!" He let the flames fly... Captain Marcus and a Guardsman screamed in pain, but their armor and the faith in The Emperor protected them as they remained shooting. The Boy was not as lucky... he wiggled in agony. Ahhh.... the smell of burning Ork flesh!
Captain Marcus continued to scream to his men to continue to fire. Fear inundated his men; they all saw how their shots either missed miserably or just bounced of the Orks. Suddenly, a stroke of luck. The Captain shot one of the Orks in the groin and he dropped dead! Motionless and lifeless in an instant. Was that the Orks vulnerable spot? "
SHOOT THEIR BALLS OFF!" Another Ork dropped dead... a gaping hole between his legs. Meanwhile the largest of the Orks, moved in closer to their fortress... almost undetected.
Another Green-Skin stupidly tried to catch up the three men on an adjacent building. He boldly got close, las-shots bouncing from him. He tried to climb in a rush, only to fall down. He continued to look for a way to climb, his eyes shot with blood lust. Meanwhile, the Burna Boy continued to burn Captain Marcus alive, but his fortified position and armor proved as efficient as guarding the flames as hi commitment to the God-Emperor.
Another Ork reached close to the main building, but the snipers shot him in the back. He fell down in agony, clearly alive.
The Burna Boy, excited by the smell of burning flesh decided to move and try another angle. Flames engulfed more of the building. Lasgun fire continued to pour out. "
Wuts wong? Burna not burn'ng!" The Guardsmen strengthen their resolve; the Xeno must die.
Meanwhile, one of the Boyz managed to climb up and was about to engage the humans. Unfortunately for him, the Guardsmen opened fire and injured the Ork enough to allow the 3rd man to take advantage in hand to hand combat, instantly killing the foul green-skin.
Close by, the Grots grew bold and attempted to storm the building. Well, one of the Boyz 'encouraged' them. As they got close, they could see a human trying to shot at them. The first Gretchin, the one that shot off the head of the man with the Flamer said "
Not worry Toof-ake... me blow dis one too!" He took aim with his gun and pulled the trigger. There was a loud explosion and a loud thud. The Gretchin laid on the floor, the gun shattered to pieces. The other Grot laughed, pointed the gun maniacally and pulled the trigger. After the smoke cleared, he too laid on the floor... his face was missing.
The Nob had entered the building and received some shots from Captain Marcus. The giant beast kept moving forwards... but was intercepted by a Guardsman. With minimal effort, the brute cracked the skull of the poor man open and marched forward. The Burna Boy decided to empty his tank on the next shot at the building. Flames engulfed Captain Marcus and a lonely Guardsman, while an Ork charged him. The Captain's faith continued to protect him, while the Guardsman's screams of agony and death echoed in the distance. The Ork arrived to the charcoal corpse, who he continued to kick and club to pieces.
Captain Marcus needed to escape. High Command needed to be alerted. More troops needed to be sent to exterminate these green vermin. Only one way to do so... attack the Nob while he was busy ripping the Infantryman to pieces in his mad bloodlust. He took his sword and charged... he leap in the air and buried his sword on the Nob's left shoulder. The monster fell down, making an opening for the Captain's escape.
Their mission complete and their vicotry assured, Captain Marcus vox his men to vanish in the darkness and confusion of war.
Victory to the Imperium! =================

Was a fun game! Again, luck was on my side (even when we used the same dice!). My Burna Boy survived 12 shots while he was KD. I could NOT believe that BOTH Gretchins got CRITICAL HITS (and Master Shots at that!) back-to-back. The great balance of things... they both got CRITICAL FUMBLES and blew themselves off! HA! Richard's strategies (removing the ladders) was sound, and he got lucky with his Armor Saves.
The IGs had lost 4 Infantrymen, of which two died in the Post-Battle Sequence. The Orks lost 4 Boyz, the Sneaky Boss and 2 Gretchins, of which 1 Boy and 1 Gretchin dies. The Sneaky Boss was fine. Since this was a demo with 2 Officers each, no Exploration Phase was rolled.
I hope to see Richard and play again, once he reads TLRB.
