| Hello forum. You may have seen painting support groups on other forums (Ex warseer: http://www.warseer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=142). The idea is each month you must complete a certain amount of models and post pictures. People then provide comments. The purpose is to set a goal to complete a certain amount of models in a certain amount of time. Warseer does this based on points value. Participants are supposed to complete 200 points of fantasy or 40k in one month. You get 2 jokers (missed months) a year. At the end of 1 year you would then have a 2000 point army.
So the point of this is, is there interest in doing something similar for deathsquads on this forum? We could expand it a little to include terrain, models, and dioramas if people wanted. It would help to generate more activity in the painting section, to get more painted squads, and to help improve each others' painting skills.
If you are interested please post here. Also, lets try to figure out some criteria for monthly goals. I may not be the best person to administer this as I may be out of contact for some of the months, but I definitely would like to try and get it off of the ground. To make this work we really need at least 4 or 5 committed people to complete the goals for the first few months.
Check out the entries on warseer and post away!

| I like the idea... but we'd have to do a squad a month. Nah, I love it. The criteria are the main problem. Should we have them? Maybe two officers / three recruits a month? (EASY! then again, with all the modelling...) | |

| Since the only 40K stuff I paint are commission pieces, I doubt I'd be much of a contributor to the Beasty...unless, of course, any minis painted would fit into the scheme of things. The level would have to be different than for a painting group that was aiming at turning out "armies". D.S is geared at producing much smaller cadres of troops that are more heavily converted than would be practical for larger scale games. | |

| Agree with the concept and the suggested reduction of scale. Not sure how much I'd actually manage, since I probably won't be able to spray undercoat for the next couple of months (below zero Celsius tends to turn the spray to powder) but I'll give it a good go. I think including terrain would be a great plan and I'd also included dioramas as they contain miniatures... seems logical. | |

Spray inside, be sure to vent the room plenty. I did it in the bathroom at my old apartment. I have a shed these days. But yes, I'll agree everything goes. It's just a thread to keep each other motivated, right?

| A slow but steady pace could be 2 officers or 3 recruits. With a 'big guy' counting as two. | |

| DeafNala-I have no problem with doing non-DS stuff for it, as long as no one else does.
It would be good to stay fairly flexible so people aren't intimidated and so that is is achievable. 2 officers/3recruits/big guys count as 2 sounds pretty good. Adding in terrain and dioramas and there is plenty to keep people busy with 1 object per month.
At this rate a squad would take 3 months for officers and 4 months for recruits. Maybe 2 officers/4 recruits, so that a gamer who followed that pace for a full year would complete 2 squads, a pretty decent pace. That pace also allows for conversions and things.
I am glad there is so much interest. Keep the ideas rolling!

| I like the idea as anything that helps me keep even the slightest bit of focus is a good thing. However there is no way that I would commit to units for larger scale games (40k WFB etc.). All I do these days is characters, vehicles, and terrain for the most part. One thing I can tell you is that the more anal retentive I get with the finished project the longer it takes me. My suggestion would be to start of the group with letting each person lay out there base plan with monthly targets or something and then see if they can keep it | |

| I think it's a great idea. As I have mentioned in my Templar thread, in my my club we have something called Stick & Carrot. It's a 6 month painting support group where each participant has to paint one unit each month and after six months you have a small army. I'm currently using it to expand my Templar army and it really works. Here on forum we could do something like that. Though I think a whole year is a bit too long. Even six months seems to be quite enough for a 10-12 man squad. I mean, I just painted 15 marines and two tanks in one month beside all the other stuff I'm doing. But then again, when I pick up that paintbrush it stays attached for a while I don't think there should be any pre-set number of models. Instead each person who wants to join should set their own goals. Here's an example: The next six months I have the following I want to paint: 1st. and 2nd. month: My Renegade squad 3rd. and 4th. month: The last marines for my Chaos Army 5th. month: Fabius Bile for my Chaos Army 6th. month: My Hellhammer As you can see this is a high model count and it could be smaller(or much larger). The important thing is that you set a goal and with a bit of cheering from your fellow friends you reach that goal. And if you miss one month then try to catch up with it later. As long as you reach your goal at the end of the six months you have won! As an extra little treat the people who finish all the models they intend to could get a chance for a little prize. That could be anything from a single model to a whole squad, from a tiny Nurgling to a fearsome Ogryn I wouldn't mind giving the first prize and the winner could be responsible for next and so on. | |

| Right now my goal is to get 3 pieces of terrain done this month. A fuel or water tank, a Power Generator of some kind and then either some tall plant area terrain or a 3 story building. | |

| mudboy-I really like the idea of doing goals for each person. It would also allow a balance of models, terrain, diorama and conversions.
So lets say each person sets a 6 month target. Then at the beginning of each month we will share out goals for the next month, highs and lows, and the painting and modelling completed as part of the support group.
Any ideas for a name for the group?

Paint Korps of Krieg or Death Painters of Krieg
I don't know, some funny 40k universe reference.

| You mean I am actually supposed to paint these models? I thought urban grey was just the way they came, and the special ones were shiny silver to show how important they are. Well this just totally changes the hobby.
I like the idea of a self directed program, and could probably run it at least until may, when my work starts.

| Sultansean, you should be able to get your squad done by May... Then maybe in Sept we can have a battle between fully painted squads. No more urban grey! | |

| I've just about finished my Guard squad... and now I've put a new Slaanesh squad together. Great, just when I was able to play with a fully painted squad, I get a shiny new one... ;D | |

| I need some motivation to finish a few painting projects in the next couple of months (sleep won't be an option anyway with a little one coming soon!). Chaos cultists, orks and a few other bits (not to mention the WoC army I had started). I reckon I could get involved. Laney

| This is great. There seems like a lot of interest. We just need a good name and then I'll start a new thread where we can post our goals.
Any good ideas for a name for the painting support group?
