(I.e. throwing responsibility on you guys!)

I like alliteration too much to care that I misspelled dilemma. Twisted Evil

Anyways, I am horribly indecisive. I currently want to make the following squads: Khorne or Tzeentch cultists, Kroot, Ice Guard but modeled as Inquisitorial retinue, Orks, or start on a Genestealer Cult. confused

I am going to base my decision on some advice from you all! Normally I would be all over Imperial Guard but I do play them for 40K and wondering if something else would be a good change of pace. Plus I can always just use my IG models if someone around me wants to play IG or IR.

So what do people think would be a good idea for me to go with? Also remember I do not have a steady group for this, although I have a few friends that may be considering getting into the hobby with either this or Mordheim!

I would take a good look at what would seduce those wayward friends of yours into the hobby. In fact, when seducing friends it's CRITICAL to have a couple of squads lying around. That way your friends can just come over and start playing, easing their transition into nerdhood. Most people can't handle playing with models AND having to paint them, but after having done a couple of games usually give in anyway *looks at Telruna*.

So find out what they like.. discreetly. And then have the models ready when they come along.

Me? I work on several squads at the same time. I started with Cadians, just because I loved the idea of an IG unit behind enemy lines (I would have taken drop troopers, but they aren't in the game as of yet, of course). After that I swapped over to the dark side and started Slaanesh. And now, having played several games with two shooty squads, I've gathered up all my old Catachan bits and models have been at making a squad of CC nasties for the last couple of days.

You see, that's the beauty of a skirmish game: you don't HAVE to choose. It's only 5-6 officers that need a lot of personality, maybe some specialist recruits... after that it's generic recruit spam, with a MAX of 17-20 models per squad. It doesn't take you as long as a 40k army to do, which gives you space to do EVERYTHING you like.

Should you want to choose ONE (as I am getting from your post... and if I haven't convinced you to play EVERY squad yet...) DO NOT go with the Genestealer cult for now: they'll be getting rules in the future. Granted, the FAR future... so if you really can't resist, play a 'counts as' IR squad.

Otherwise, the Inquisitorial Retinue sounds absolutely bad-ass and I would really want to see the models you create for them - but that's me being selfish. My personal second choice would be Khorne, because...

If you have lots of buildings play Orks.

If you want most of the squad from one box then play Kroot.

If I wasn't playing Orks then the Tzeentch Cultists sound cool (remember your officers can mix and match to some extent).

If you want to be an Inquisitor then maybe go radical and choose cultists again (I know it wasn't on the list!).

Choose Orks, no Tzeentch!, no IG all way! Choose Life!

Do what Arachas said and build all of them. I have 2 IG, Eldar (admittedly in bits), Orks (2 versions), IR (never finished) and Nurgle cultists (almost modelled) and I'd happily pick up more plastic to model more (I'll go mad when the Speys Mareens arrive!).

Sorry no help!

Laney Very Happy

You could try a playstyle that you rarely use. If you usually play IG, than maybe CC oriented Khorne is cool. Kroot are pretty unique too. If you want to stay (relativly) shooty you could try Tzeench ot the Inquisitorial squad. I say go Kroot. It is an almost one box squad (hounds are sepperate) and they are quite different and interesting compared to guard.

The Squads play differently!!! If I were you, I build some Orks AND some IGs... have something to teach (temp) others to play... then when your group stable build yourself some KHORNE!!!!

I normally play IG in 40K but in Mordheim I play orcs, or Pit Fighters, or norse Marauders (from BTB).

And i will be building more (it is my curse after all to like this hobby). Just looking for which to start with. And I have enough models that they CAN play Chaos or IR or IG with a little proxy action.

So now I seem to be learning towards Kroot. Hmmm.

Any way I might get a hint of any other Squads that might be coming out soon? Tau or the Genestealer Cult both are interesting. or even Scouts...

Tau are going to be cool, but they are very much still in the development phase (aka, fluff and design premise, a bit of squad layout, etc. No points yet, no depot, pretty much no special rules, skills and all that sort of stuff.) So if you want to play something soon, Tau might not be the best idea...

Since apparently my friend already has kroot for his Tau army he will be playing them, so maybe orks... so many options which to do first??? Argh!

Playing orks will create some nasty close combat battles (which could be cool). Just don't let the kroot charge you! Go for orks (huge modelling opportunities) and again one or two boxes will give you the parts for a cool squad (boyz and ard boyz box are probably the best start point). Plus you can make a model out of rubbish in your bitz box and fully justify it (trash kans are fun to model!)

Laney

cheers

appealing way of thoughts, and a correct one

i would stick to khornates\tzeench cult - both can have wide interpretations and thus many conversion possibilities + the best catchphrases in the universe

orks\ig are good at that too, but they are a popular choice

inquisition is a viable option, though i have little idea of models and customizations for them

Hmm I am liking the Khornate Cult again... Why am i so indecisive? Maybe because i have cool ideas for each squad... But the Khorne Squad could use a lot of things I already have bits for.

And like Sev said: "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!" is a very appealing battle cry. Plus if I played them right it could be really fun.

I own enough models to represent enough anyways. So until I finish my Snotling Warband I'll just playtest the Cult and see how it works out.

Pick one, build it, play with it, love it. Then move on to the next one. Wink

Ok, that came out wrong... hehe. I'm talking about SQUADS. For the record: I've been in a stable relationship for 6 years with my first girlfriend, who is now my wife AND I'm having a daughter in May. Just so you know I don't have attachment issues...

Congratulations on the girl!!!

And yeah, I will start learning the rules better with IG or proxy, then delve into losing money for the hobby...
