| So my box of kroot arrived courtesy of ebay and I'm trying to decide what paint scheme to go with... I'm going to give em the Kauyon evo path so I wanted to paint some kind of camouflage into the scheme, as well as giving a nod to their avian/reptilian/amphibian ancestry by keeping the paint job fairly bright Here's what I'm thinking: Poison dart frog colours are nuts but this one seems do-able I like the way this looks like a shifting pattern, like it's constantly trying to blend Also, these What do you guys reckon? Any suggestions for a sneaky kroot paint scheme? | |

| Bright orange isn't very sneaky! But I reckon cool comes before sneaky! What about doing the frog pattern with green instead of orange? | |

| with too good camouflage on kroots you'll find one thing - it's hard to find them on the board after the game, and this also means possibility of simply forgetting one or two in the chaos of battle (that's why I painted my kroots feathers etc. on yellow- they were too sneaky!) | |

| @TheBlackKnight Aye, a big splodge of orange isn't very sneaky, I'd maybe have the tips of the dreads shaded in orange and little flashes of colour running down the back
I've got 16 kroot to play with so I'll do a few practice runs of paint schemes
@dr!zzt Good point man, especially since death squads uses a lot of terrain
Also, I'm a big fan of your Machete kroot

| I was an enormous fan of camouflage on minis, looked over numerous tutorials and even painted a nice desert camo scheme. Thing is, camouflaged minis are wonderful as display pieces but when you have to play with them they just blend together and/or with the board, and you end up playing with a 'meh' army...
My tank with a single desert color and camo netting is the first people want to see before the game, but during they just don't care about him, people come and look at the other tank with more color on it, because that's what catches their eyes.
If I were to paint some kroots I would go with the Poison dart frog bright orange color while trying to blend their feet to the base to get a Chameleon look, or maybe a grey normal color with orange/red details on their back to signalize their danger!

| Hmmm... balangaz has a good point. When you do an excellent camo, the model 'vanishes' in the table... and you loose the wow factor. Like movies special effects... the better they are, the less people notice them. If you are aiming for players' kuddos and WOW FACTOR... poison dart-frog it is. If you want for realism, camo it is (and be ready to be counting minis after every Turn! ) | |

| I managed to get one experimental kroot painted up. The model details are a bit rough in these pictures as I just wanted to try and replicate the frog pattern. The hands and feet are a turquoise mix and blend into space wolves grey. Coated the whole thing in an unhealthy amount of gloss for that amphibian sheen. I'm going to try another one soon, so if anyone has any suggestions for this paint scheme or another let me know, cheers. | |

| I like it!
It is totally crazy and vibrant. Very cool. I am shocked at how well this crazy scheme works. Very nice job blending the blue into the white.
Any thoughts on bases? A really strong jungle theme could help the models to have that jungle reference with the frogs. I can imagine some really cool posibilities for tricky reposing with tree stumps and other base details. Great work.

| Yeah I was thinking of jungle-themed bases; lots of foliage and twigs.
Which makes me think making the feet and hands green, then blending to lighter green might make more sense. That way you could argue that their skin is taking on the appearance of the surroundings.

| Dude, the pattern and colours are awesome!
I'd say change the green clothes though, they're a bit gammy. Maybe something a bit more natural looking. Like its leather fresh off an animal!

| Man, I gotta stop smoking stuff... ... oh wait, that's just your paintscheme. Very original! Certainly got the WOW-factor. I agree with BlackKnight that you should change the green clothing, it doesn't fit. Maybe just brown? | |

| Aye I see what you guys mean about the green, there's enough colour already.
i'm still not convinced with this scheme so I'm going to try a green scheme and see how that works out.
Pics to come. | |

| As awesome as the spotted scheme is, this one tops it. WOW! I really like the combination of colors, the placement of the colors (white jaw = ace) and the wet-skin effect. I take it you used gloss varnish for that?
Awesome, awesome. MOAR!
