| My girlfriend want an Ogryn for her future squad and she was complaining that there wasn't any really good models out there. She simply didn't like any of the fifty different one's I showed her. Kind of annoyed I told her to make one herself. Big mistake! She said she didn't know how to do it and that I should make one for her instead of buying her flowers. So I agreed to make her one. I asked her if it should have a buzzsaw or a big gun to wich she replied: "A big sniper gun!" My first thought was "WTF!" but then I thought "Why not?" So here's the start. Still missing a scope but the guillie suit is getting there: Cheers | |

| Are you complaining that your girlfriend wants you to make her a model instead of giving her flowers...? (the only time I have ever used violent smilies online). | |

| That's pretty cool. I really like the ogryn approach to the whole weapon: big and ready to be used in close combat (with that bayonet) Love the idea of sneaky ogryn who stands ten feet tall | |

| HAHAH! This thread is so 'mudboy' is not even funny... well, it is... in EVERY aspect. The story AND the model. Since it is for your GF, tell her that it will be "safe" from "The Great Devourer" when I go to Denmark. Ogryn Sniper? PURE WIN! | |

| Thanks guys. He's all finished and ready for priming. The gaze/gause/freaking medic-wrap-around-wound-thingy is a biatch to work with but I hope it will look good when painted. Cheers | |

| Did you put any glue on the gauze or anything to flatten it? I am curious how it will paint. I wonder if there will be loose fibers that are hard to paint. I am excited to see this painted and how well it works when finished. | |

| Looking good Mudboy.
Superglue over the ghillie suit helps to a) attach it b) stiffens the fibres, making painting really easy (even if you shred the edges of the suit).

| Cool. You might want to consider removing that bajonet at the end of the gun: in terms of accuracy it will get in the way. As far as accuracy is really an issue for an Ogryn sniper, of course... Oh, and is that a mold line I see on the gun? | |

| Thanks. Yeah, the whole suit is drenched in superglue to stiffen it and I also gave it a blast of purity seal just in case. It'll be interersting to see how it turns out. - Arachas wrote:

| Not that it would apply to this rifle, but some need the bayonets for accuracy unless they're retooled/resighted: Q. Why does my M44 (of M91/30) shoot so far to the left (or right) of the point of aim? A. M44s were sighted in with the bayonet extended. Shooting with the bayonet stowed affects the barrel harmonics and can change the point of impact by as much as 1 foot per 100 yards. Not all M44s are effected this much or even at all. Either shoot with the bayonet extended or drift the front sight to compensate for the difference. Similarly M91/30s were sighted with the bayonet fixed. Babam, bayonet or no bayonet depending on what you like | |

| Great base. Did you make the base itself yourself? Doesn't look like a GW edge on close inspection.
The ork hands ended up looking really good on this model. Looks very nice so far. Very creative.

| Thanks
The base is from gw's 40k basing kit. Dont buy it, it's rubbish. The resin bits are full of bubbles so there's simply too many repairs for it to be any good. This one was not as bad as the others. The casings are part of the base.

| Finished. I think... Well I might play around with some pigments but I'm worried I'll ruin it. Pic's so Mord don't get all The gaze seems to work pretty good as some sort of camo wrapping but I don't think I'll use it as a ghillie again. It didn't end up quite as I hoped it would. | |

| needs some sticks and moss in it or something to make it look a little more ghillie suit like. Maybe a add a few clumps of rail road shrubbery to it and bent up paperclips as branches? Snipers also camo their weapons it's a dead giveaway if you see the gun laying out there in the open that's its' attached to someone. | |

| Honestly? Don't like. It is a great model... hidden behind a camo suit. I mean... this could be a guy with lots of gear or a fat man for all that we know. You could make an awesome ghillie suit... but the punch-line (pun intended) of a OGRYN being a SNIPER is completely lost. To me the Ogryn is more important than the suit. Sorry... I'm just being honest. That said... you know I lack imagination to 'visualize' the final product, so you still have a chance to make me eat my words. | |

| Well the goal with the model itself was indeed an Ogryn Sniper. Mission accomplished The goal with the camo thingy was a ghilliesuit. Mission Failed. Lesson learned, gaze is not usefull as a ghilliesuit without adding further static grass, flock, etc, etc. As you said Mord, the concept of an Ogryn Sniper was the important part and it worked out. The ghillie didn't but now I(and you guys) know that it need's a bit more work to make it look good. I know how a ghilliesuit look's like and how to use it. I play airsoft and had one many years ago so the concept is not unfamilliar to me. And as this little sniper isn't for me I can make a new one and redeem myself | |

| Overall very good. I like your idea and what you have done. As you noted some static grass and or trees would be nice but your base might have to increase in size.
Keep up the good work. | |

| The static grass and such would improve the overall look - but is extra dressing.
When I've done ghillie suits in the past, I've used an open weave bandage cut into strips or a baby muslin, both give a nice mesh look and can be stretched and shredded to give a ghillie suit look, the super glue and a rough camo paint job will do the rest. Any static grass and leaves then add to this effect. If you laid it on in strips you can build up a pretty effective ghillie suit and show more of the Ogryn underneath without losing the illusion of effective camouflage (thus keeping Mord happy too!). Is it possible to open the weave on the gauze up? - if so this should work really well.
The other thing you could try is giving him a helmet with leaves and twigs etc and having the camo cloak over his shoulders - the hood drawn back - this way you can clearly see an Ogryn and get the chance to camo paint on his face etc. I agree with Dysturbed that some wrap around the weapon (not too much) would give a nice final touch.
Another idea - could you repose an ogre model to kneel and repose the arms to hold the rifle in more of a sniper pose (the gs required and modelling can be quite rough as most will be covered by ghillie suit anyway)? This might give a greater sense of sniper and maybe add a ratling sniper 'partner/trainer' to the base to aid the trainee Ogryn sniper (just an idea).
This is a great concept and worth another go if that is what you intend to do.
I hope this helps
Cheers Laney:D | |
