Superb Squad! Very unique models. Shame about the pictures... I think I can give you a few tips that would help you make the most of your camera. Hope they help...
At this subject size, the f-stop is critical. Cheaper cameras do not allow you to play with it, so when you get too close the thing can't focus. If your camera has a macro setting (to take pictures of smaller subjects - usually represented by a Flower), put it there. It is an f-6 or f-8... not perfect, but good enough. If it has only an automatic, its ok... that would be an f-2 to f-4. Ideally you want an f-22.
Take the picture from 18 to 30" away! I know... the model on the picture would be 'small'... but if the camera is 5 mega-pixels or more (made at least on 2004), you can crop them with Picasa, and the picture would be zoomed in, in focus and PERFECT!
