| NOTE: No rants or flames... get a sense of humor or look away. I'm NOT debating your faith or the validity of your convictions. Yes... I'm a Christian. Yes... I'm going to Hell. Yes... I'm looking forward playing Death Squads with ALL of you over there. For you Christians... Happy Easter!
If you are wondering what a bunny that poops brightly colorful eggs with chocolate filling had to do with Jesus, like I did... read the answer!
The celebration of Easter is a corruption of the Pagan celebration of Ēostre, during the middle ages in northern Europe. Monks, always looking for great ways to teach about their faith, noticed that the celebration of a critical point on their religion was celebrated on the first Sunday after the vernal equinox. This coincided with the spring celebration for Ēostre, the goddess of Spring Fertility; curiously enough, Ēostre is the root for the word “Estrogen”. Ēostre's symbolic representation was a pair of Moon Hares (rabbits) in a a basket of grain, seed and/or eggs to start the new planting season. Part of Ēostre's myth and folklore included the story of how she saved a hen from being eaten (why?) by turning it into a rabbit (like that is inedible!) which continued to lay colorful eggs (stories like this happen when you get cabin-fever!)
The monks, clever as ever (probably due the lack of TV, internet and porn) decided to to be sneaky like an Ork a fox, and borrowed the theme since both celebrated the new life and beginning. The bunny would be on a basket with lilies and flowers (symbolizing nature's rebirth, as well as the one of humanity), have a bell around its neck (symbolizing the church bells and call to faith & salvation) with eggs (food for the adults) and sweets (food for the children.) Over time, probably after the Spanish Conquistadores discovered chocolate (soon after the destruction of the Aztecs, one of the greatest mathematician civilizations ever lived) the egg and the sweet idea merged to form the chocolate egg.
Over time, Ēostre was forgotten (maybe it had to do with the Inquisition and the hunt for the heretic) and we were left confused on how to relate a bunny that poops brightly colorful eggs with chocolate filling with Jesus. Now you know...
For you others... Long ago, as a child, this was my reasoning for the bunny while sitting in Church. I guess somehow, I got traumatized like the kid below. Cruel people should not breed.
