| Well, I hit the motherload. A gentlemen at our LGS (Local Game Store, for those who don't know) had aquired roughly 6,000 points of IG from a friend of his. They came from various era's, from 2nd Ed to 4th Ed of 40k. As such he had about 40 Steel Legion troopers. 6 Months previous, I had given him 5 Terminators that I was not using in my Deathwing army (I have 45 termies, whats 5 more right???), and told him that at some point I would call in a favor. Well, I called in that favor. I got the pick of litter, and choose 20 of them for my IG squad. I just calculated the cost of these models, and for $50 of termies, I got roughly $125 of steel legion. One hell of a deal if you ask me. Anyways, since these came from another army, they were painted in the scheme the previous owner chose. Lets just say the scheme sucked, and the painting was horrendous. They got a Simple Green bath, with a gentle scrub from a tooth brush and a scraping with a dental tool to clean out the crevice's. What you see here is the best that could be accomplished, as the paint that was on them is roughly 10 years old.... I am not 100% set on the paint scheme yet, as I do not like the actual Steel Legion paint scheme. The Officer helmets will be marked with there rank, as well as have a vertical white bar if they are an commisioned officer, and a horizontal bar if they are NCO's. Think of them like the helmet markings for WWII paratroopers. For those that don't know what I am talking about.... Here they are! My Captain, will be painted as a Captain (fancy that!) A Leautenant, will be painted as an Lt. Another Leautenant and a Sergeant, but both will be painted as a Sergeants. A sergeant and my LGT officer, both will be painted as Corporals. | |

| Great models - the will look superb when painted up. What do you plan them to be (urban fighters perhaps)? | |

Actually, any combination of the Regional platoons. They would work well as Cadians, Death Korps, Urban Fighters, Ice Guard, or Mordians. The only ones I don't think I could get away with is the Catachans.... Thats why I am kinda stuck on the paint scheme. I would need something that would work well for all of the above, or at least easily explainable as to why they are in those colors. Best I can come up with is probably a blue-ish grey, with either a very dark grey helmets or black. All webbing and gear will be a dark brown (almost black). Lasguns and weapons will definitly be boltgun metal with black trim pieces. I'll try a couple of different colors and put them up and see what people say.

| Bluish grey would be cool - something like shadow grey or fenris would make a fine colour scheme - but without the camo. As an alternative what about a classic WW2 scheme (based on the paratroops you referenced earlier) - it would work well for everything bar the mordian (which I'm not sure the steel legion would work for to be honest). Maybe my next guard squad could be a WW2 british troop (thinking normandy landings - with foliage in their helmets, packs and try to emulate the airfix model troop poses).
Look forward to seeing what you come up with Cheers Laney

| Mordians? Sure... and the Eldar Guardians I have serve as Orks! You wish...
On color? I say Tan... darker shades. Simulate heavy leather?

| Very cool - quite WW2 german soldier in terms of colour scheme - looks effective and suitable for all the game options (possibly even Mordian - if you could justify the gas masks etc - due to special duties).
Nice start - really interested to see how these guys turn out.
