Anyone excited for 6th?

I was wondering if anyone here is excited for the upcoming 6th edition of 40K. I haven't been playing 40K for a long time and I'm wondering if that will change with this edition.

I want to know what the box set will be.

Im not really excited, but I do need some templades and if the models are usefull for me, I might consider it.

The models might be full equipt space marines and something else like that, the models is probaly not something I can use...

$75 for the main rulebook? I'm OUT.

Once the box set comes, I may consider it... if not I grab the mini-rulebook in eBay for $10 (sentimental reasons).

NOTE: IF (and only IF) they do good on the fluff (they better not mess up the Dark Angels!) I may consider buying the book. But that is a big IF... If I had $75 to spare, I would definitely spend it on Sedition Wars (LINK)

I will get it for sure.....whether or not I will be playing to competitively like I was during 5th.....well that remains to be seen.....

I'll be in for the boxset (all those minis at a reasonable price - rather than GW's usual - I may even start a new army with it, or add to my blood angels) and probably get the big book too.

EDIT: I should answer the actual question if I'm posting in the thread, don't you think? I am pretty excited, I never got into 5th and only played a game or two of 4th. I think I played the bulk of my 40k in 2nd (mid 90s). I read some rumors on...Bell of Lost Souls (IIRC) quite a while ago and remember liking what I saw. Who knows if any of it will turn out to be true.

Reading through the summary from Arachas again I have to say it seems like something I can get behind. I was recently out shopping with my wife in the same plaza as the GW store and my wife thought we should take our three year old daughter in to look around (was a bit random cause she is very much not a gamer). She casually mentioned the possibility of me heading out there more often, asking costs and such if I wanted to get back into it and has brought it up a few times since. Seems this might be the perfect opportunity for me to jump back in to the game.

I've got my copy of the 6th edition, and until now I'm pretty exited =)

There are some things I have to try out, but overall, it seems like a more balanced ruleset - event though it has taken a great leap towards 8th edition WHF.

What are your thoughts? Anyone?

I like a lot of what they did in WHF 8th edition. The rules for magical weapons and items where nice especially.

I did notice that some of the way they divided up magic is kinda umm per fluff well wrong, but who's to judge it was probably done because of balancing things.

I do feel that over balancing much of the time makes each army seem like a carbon copy of the other in which only the small differences make each army different.

It's why old school gamers hated 4th edition d&d and I hope WH 40k isn't going that direction. Or they will end up with a 7th edition "version that shall not be named".

The book is overpriced though. I understand that it looks to be HUGE but even the pathfinder RPG manual which is like a sack of bricks was only 59. Which i waited till I could get for 25 used also.

This all coming from someone who will NEVER play 40k as a game though. I have no desire to paint a whole army and no desire to play the game. It's just not for me.

as Tau player i'm very happy what happend with Rapid fire rules, Hull Points allow my suicide grenade team to glance Land Rider to death in one turn, also a lot of options in Mission section is great. And minimum (!) 4+ cover for Stealhsiuts, in the open terrain...
For fortifications: Great job, GW, now everyone will buy some bastions or at least aegis Def. Line... The cheapest way to get AA gun (100 points total for Aegis line + AA quad Gun- H4, s7 ap4, skyfire stationary gun...)
But potencially 12'(move)+k6(run)+ 2k6 (charge)= it's now from 15' to 30' (!!!) charge range for beasts... Ouch. And they're not slowed down by terrain...
And snap shots... For 10man ork Lootas it's not bad moving and shooting (hitting on 6's instead of 5's)

Which means we may see squat IG sometime and certainly conversions with them.

There are also so new classifications for other abhumans.

Anyone else think of Beast from the X-Men?

Neandors (Homo Sapiens Hyannothus). Based on the name, they could be Neanderthal types, and Hyannothus does make me think of Hominids and proto-humans.

Since I'm doing this abhuman squad this excited me alot I really am considered maybe doing a longshanks and a felinid in there somewhere, probably a cultist though with a robe so it's easier to model.

I'll be on the lookout for that pdf as well!

New edition time. Overall all changes are nice and sound. But one. Wound allocation is now messed up. For good. Rolling single die to wound single model and he have to be killed before going to next model in squad? It is slow beyond comprehension. And challenge system? In grim darkness? Honor and cookies? it is first edition i consider to skip. Battle the odds? Sure! Battle the system? Not fun at all.

About the wound allocation, you can still fast-roll, and take the same saves as before to get there faster =)

From tournament scene point of view its rather how slow-roll someone can play. Time will tell. For now im not that optimistic.
