| So Mordheimer, I built up a list today for my Catachans that I'm gonna start building tomorrow afternoon hopefully. I like to have a list in place before i start modeling so I don't just go all willy-nilly with the conversions for no apparent reason. also, from what i can tell from reading their entry in TLRB, Catachan officers get a free CF? if I'm wrong tell me so i can adjust the list. so here it is:
captain 110 -CF -Boltgun -Laspistol -Flak Jacket -Helmet
Louie #1 70 -CF -Lasgun
Louie #2 70 -CF -Lasgun
Sarge #1 64 -CF -Lasgun
Sarge #2 64 -CF -Lasgun
HWS 56 -Flamer
Trooper #1-2 43 each -Chain -AutoPistol
Trooper #3 43 -Chain -Autopistol
Trooper #4 35 -Chain x2
Let me know what you think, and if it's jacked up let me know. thnx all.
*edited for punctuation *edited again : well would you look at that? I'm the 666th post in this particular section of the forum. lucky or unlucky? I can't decide. I may just have to name my Catachan squad "The Beast"

| The list looks pretty good so far, just a few recommendations: 1 Drop some of the lasguns for autoguns or sluggers this saves you a fair bit of money and in the early stages of the game AP isn't so important. Sure you can give them hot shot powerpacks effectively creating bolters but catachan officers are very CC oriented and shooting with them seems a waste. I personally like autoguns because they already have combat knives and pistols are void from the attack the soft spot rule. 2 Give the henchmen either sluggers, autopistols, or autoguns. Again I'm partial to the autoguns because of the extra range and extra shot while moving but sluggers are also good and are expandable with dum-dum bullets. Henchmen may not dual wield in only officers can (I think) so the money spent on clubs is wasted and a combat knife is good enough as a CC weapon at the beginning. 3 Your captain looks good but I would suggest swapping the boltgun for a bolt pistol or a powerfist , which is an otherwise difficult to get weapon and even though they are thinking on improving it I think it's still plenty powerful. 4 With the money you save I would suggest you get another H/ws with a flamer. Flamers are fantastically versatile weapons and are amazingly destructive against enemies who clump together. I managed to take two mordians OOA and stun annother with just one flamer shot . Hope this helps | |

| Kiwi: WOW Master Kiwi... you are a regular PRO! Burndown29: Kiwi's advice is SOUND. I would add the following. - Catachan Officers are VERY Close Combat oriented. You WANT to get them in Close Combat... sneak and attack! The initial combo of weapons is an Autopistol (or Slugger) and their Catachan Fang. Why an Autopistol? Because they will spend MOST of their time Walking and Hidding (no shooting), so they get close to the enemy undetected. The Pistol can be use in Close Combat. - Captain: Save LOTS of money not getting the Boltgun. I would NOT get a Power Fist... it is too expensive for initial Squads and the Strike Last will get your Captain killed. I would get him Carapace, Helmet and Laspistol. He has a Catachan Fang for free... so he would be Save 3+ (with 4+ Save against Stun), could shoot (if absolutely necessary) and when he gets close to someone he will be one scary dude! - You Catachans look more like Cadians... hehehe... just like my Eye Pokers looked at 1st. You are going to get yourself into a world of hurt! does NOT force you to play any particular Squad in any particular way, but it does rewards you for playing them as intended. For example... you can play Mordians as Close Combat nuts... it would be hard, but it is possible. Instead, if you keep the Mordians "in formation" you get rewarded with lots of goodies on the shooting phase. You could play shooty Orks, but will not be as satisfying (or efficient) as playing them Close Combat aggro. Your Officers have one of the BEST Close Combat Weapons... you get to re-roll to-Wound! You have a better chance to kill Orks in Close Combat that by shooting at them. Play (and gear) to your strengths. - The Catachan Infantrymen should be all about supporting the Officers. Give 'em autoguns... long range attacks to soften the enemy. I would drop the Chains... at least for now. - Flamers are not super powerful in paper (only S3)... but in reality they are GREAT! The upcoming Incendiary rules will make 'em even more fun. Hehehehe... - Recruits and attacking in Close Combat with both hands will change in v0.6.0... rigt now does not affect you much, but when Recruits become better it will make a difference. - Yes, your initial Squad will feel sub-par. That is the way is designed... ALL Squads feel crappy at first, but they get better after EVERY game. | |

| The guys look good so far from what I can see, bigger pictures please? I'm sure mordheimer will give you a link to his tutorial. The list looks very good, don't worry about the models not being WYSIWYG it would take a ton of money or time spent on conversions to get a completely accurate squad. One point I would like to make is that auto guns are actually worse than the free combat knife you get in CC they still have the amour bonus but don't benefit from attack the soft spot and the ranged attack isn't that great. If you ditched these you could give your 2 leiutenants autoguns giving them a better ranged attack with BS4 as well as a better CC attack than with the pistol, and give your sargents clubs for a better CC attack. One last thing which is really nitpicking but why not give the dumdum bullets to the captain so he can use them and save 3cr? Combined with the other saving you could make you could get a second club for a leiutenant. Mordheimer Damn I was hoping you had forgotten, I have to get a better sig. The Powerfist has not got my Captain killed yet, I suppose effective T4 and a 3+ save does help but I still love it. | |

| Burndown29: Several things. 1) Double posting is bad... triple posting is REALLY BAD. Just click on the button and add stuff. We will ALL appreciate it. 2) I will be merging your posts. 3) When you put pictures from Photobucket, feel free to put the BIGGER... Instead of this code: - Code:
-
[img]http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab191/Burndown29/th_all.jpg?t=1284689190[/img] Which gives this image: Post this code: - Code:
-
[IMG]http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab191/Burndown29/all.jpg[/IMG] Which gives this image: Check the Photobucket tutorial (in our section or photobucket) for details. 4) I will be putting the LARGE pictures, to help you. EDIT: OK. All done. I put the list with the pictures... because I had nothing better to do than to kill the triple post. Question... hard to see on the pics... did you 'shave' the bandannas off before adding the spikey hair? I like SGT LIBERTY, but he looks like he needs a 'shave'... easy to do! Just file the rest of the head off and you will have a great mohawk! My favorite is CAPTAIN SLASH... very nice pose and the mohawk gives him an edge. Hhehehe... bad pun. What is up with LT COREY's hair? LT KRAVITZ looks like he is wearing a jester's hat... Anyhow.. great Squad. I would say, PLAY IT LIKE THAT. See what works for you. Thanks for sharing your models... can't wait to see what happens to them!

| Mordheimer: Corey's Hair was originally going to be a Double mohawk, but i decided i didn't want his hair to eclipse the captains hair, so its kinda a double mohawk/horns kinda thing. Lt kravitz was originally supposed to have a whole crap ton of spikes, but the GS did not want to cooperate, so i bent them all over and gave him a mix of dreadlocks and that messy rocker type hair, ya know what i mean? I'm still not all that good with GS. Wet tools help a lot, but they won't do it for ya, ya know? Also, I did not shave off bandanas. all i used for these guys was the catachan boxed squad, an extra cadian i just had laying around, minus his head and arms, a couple SM bolters for the mags on the autoguns, and the fuel tank from a Baal pred heavy flamer sponson. for the guys with the crazy hair, i just used the heads from the sprue that didnt have full head bandanas on. In my squad, only officers are authorized to grow their hair however they want if it was just an around the head bandana i left it alone, cause with their hair styled all crazy, they need something to keep the sweat out of their eyes
02Laney: the autoguns with the smg look are real easy to make. just take a lasgun, cut off the stock, cut off the magazine even with the magazine well, cut the barrel right behind the little raised part in the middle, and trim off the bottom thing that looks like a smaller barrel. clip magazine from a spare bolter, just above where it meets the magazine well, trim it up, and glue it where the lasgun magazine connected. for added coolness, re-glue the stock to the side of the lasgun, like its folded up. looks pretty sweet

| I'll give that a go on my next squad member - my autogun have always been more of an AK47 than SMG - it will be nice to add a little variety. Ta Laney | |

| mordheimer: i wouldn't necessarily call it genius, more of a mildly mutated insanity. I ruined five or six lasguns with experimentation before i finally figured out a way to make it work. | |

| Hey!
Great work, I especially like the name for the models. I usually come up with unique names for my guys.
My flamers are normally named Boy George or George Michael.
The Imperial Guard Squads are a lot of fun to create and modify.
Check out some of the pics in the picture gallery and etc.

Your painting could do with a little more shading and highlights. Otherwise, cool theme!

| Very cool - they will look ace in a battle report! Simple, effective colour scheme. I wish I could get a painted squad on the field so quickly - it takes me months! The auto SMGs look even more effective now they are painted. I used that idea to build a hell pistol for my Dramatis Personae - so thanks for the inspiration. On the washes... Very thin dark flesh would work Or ogryn flesh straight from the bottle (assuming that is tallarn flesh I see) Once you wash you never go back! Keep it coming! Laney | |
