| Hi Guys, In a massive fail on almost all my monthly goals - I have seen more shiny stuff (including Battlefleet Gothic and the Rogue Trader RPG) and decided to use the IG Death Squads (Probably Mordians) (EDIT: decided that the Imperial Renegades are probably a better fit for a 'civilian' force) rules to create a Rogue Trader and his Retinue. They will act as a 'counts as' Inquisitor or Command Squad in 40k (dependent on how the Inquisitor rules go), with the other Death Squads playing as Stormtroopers. Here is the Rogue Trader Captain Lucifer Kidd, Captain of the EDIT 2: Fearful Symmetry (WIP) And here is a pic of a random Eldar mini - which is intended to be a Dire Avenger exarch - basic kitbash. As always feedback welcome Laney

| Love 'em. Simple, but effective. The RT looks like he should look! Flashy, but with a decent 40k-techiness to him.
Awesome as ever, Lanes!

| I intend to paint him in an imperial blue and gold scheme for the coat, with pale cream/white breaches, brown leather boots. Not sure about the cloak - but it will definitely have his personal heraldry on the cloak. The weapons and metal parts will be all brass and elements of dark wood - quite steampunky, possibly with some spots of red at key points - I also really want to go to town on the feathers and hat - possibly mimicking peacock feathers, with the eyes. More retinue to follow later - Albino to finish first though! Laney | |

| Sorry for the double post. The parts are... Body Cadian command squad body with medals and long coat legs. Hat/head from the empire general plastic kit (so are the cloak and both arms). Respirator cut down from the cadian command squad ones - other part on his leg. The chainsword is made from a death company chainsword (which looked nice and ornate). Pistol has added parts for the dark eldar kabalite warriors box (don't know what the gun is called), ork nob targeter, necron gauss 'plasma' part). That's it! EDIT: Forgot the bionic leg - based on a necron leg and the rose on his chest is cut from the scythe of an amethyst wizard (plastic set). Plus of course, Greenstuff, plasticard and some plastic rod. I may add a power cable from the respirator to the body of the model (when dragonforge finally deliver them!) Hope that helps! Laney

| Some more WIP on the Crew of the Fearful Symmetry (BTW I thought rogue traders would make a good 'counts as' match for I.R. purely because they are often so close to the causes of corruption, they are independent, deal with xenos all the time and would be tolerant of mutations (particularly amongst their navigators). There is also room for further corruption as the campaign progresses and the Captain potentially becomes more cynical and intolerant towards the rigid methods of the Imperium). The mutations offer a great chance to create/account for augmetics in my enginseer as well. The crew so far... Note the tubing added to Lucifer Kidds respirator Master Helmsman Cain Haarlock (More greenstuff has been added to the 'pelt', along with some human like hands - the pelt will be getting a fluff all of its own!) Chief Enginseer Erebus Null - Basic conversion - added a mechadendrite with melta pistol (counts as a lascutter or whatever kind of pistol he is currently using - the servo arm is accounted for by the scorpion tail mutation) Astropath (forget his name). Modelled from a resin FW body from the Hector Rex set. Removed inquisitorial symbols and swapped in something a bit more astra telepathica - from one of those boring sanctioned psyker models. The connectors coming off his head are there to emphasise his psychic abilities and to connect directly to the ships main cogitator More to follow - finished a basic crewman with boarding shogun (catachan and marine scouts kitbash), and moving on with my two heavy weapon specialists - one with a master of the forge plasma cutter as a 'counts as' flamer and the other possibly using two angelus boltguns to represent a heavy stubber (my last heavy stubber was a bit mashed so it has forced me to be creative). Note: Modeling wise no two weapons on these guys will be alike (even on the recruits) - it is the ultimate anti-WYSIWYG. A possible assassin is also almost completely modelled (it was going to be a slaaneshi aspiring champion). Feedback always welcome - more to come! Laney | |

| You should seriously consider selling off pieces of yourself. I'll market them for you as 'Pure Awesomeness Guaranteed. Eat a piece of Laney and model like a GW expert.' | |

| These are the kind of models I like seeing, unique with loads of character. Im looking forward to seeing the rest of the warband. Have you seen the Rogue Trader RPG book and its supplements. Loads of ideas in there mate for this type of warband fluff wise and boatloads of great artwork. Those Dragonforge bits are much easier to work with than piano wire eh? | |

| DoomOnYou72: I'm gonna run out of the cables in a week if I'm not careful! Thanks for the heads up on those - the alternate heads they have are great too. Definitely trying hard to get the character in these guys - so It's good to see it's been spotted. I have a copy of rogue trader for fluff purposes and have gone as far as creating the rogue trader vessel ( Fearful Symmetry). I had thought to run an RPG campaign, but Death Squads is just too cool and I have so little time! Arachas: I thought you meant pieces (like conversions and stuff) - I'm not selling off pieces of myself (that's just weird!) Cheers Laney | |

| Thanks Everyone! I have more models in the mix - HWS waiting greenstuff, along with three militia, an assassin and healthcare professional but I'm struggling with the Navigator (I built one - but didn't like it - looked to much like a guardsman with a weird head). I'm thinking of using and eldar body to create a tall thin look - with a slightly over large 'wobbly' head - possibly with a fur cloak/wrap) Any thoughts? Laney | |

I've always liked this astropath model: perhaps you can make a variation of it.

| i like gatlags recommendation of the astropath for your navigator, it would be easy to convert him to achieve a similar look to the 54mm inquisitor navis nobilitai. | |

| That is a cool model and thanks for the ideas - but I'm looking for something a little different. For example, in Eisenhorn, Maxilla (the rogue trader) has a chief navigator which is essentially a brain inserted into an elaborate servitor (in the shape of a griffon) or the Navigator in one of the Ciaphas Cain novels who seems to be more reminiscent of a rich, spoilt noble woman. I also want him to act as a kind of sniper for my squad. (I'll post pics of the failed model to give you some ideas). Ta Laney | |

| Very much thinking about retro rogue trader, rather than grimdark with skulls n' stuff. I've just found an old Confrontation model that I think might do it as the base for a conversion (I wanted this squad to be all GW and if I use this model it won't be ). I'll try to post pics tomorrow morning of the squad so far. Cheers Laney | |

One weird retro trooper and two tricky weapon/arm conversions My HWS (the right guy is carrying a high velocity nail gun = heavy stubber and he guy on the left is carrying a plasma cuter with variable spray = flamer) Ships Mascots... Astropath (rogue psyker) Two more Hired Guns Assassin and Healthcare Professional (ships medicae) Any feedback? Cheers Laney
