| So - a little update. Five guys practicaly finished, except basing (photos have been slightly tempered ): I want my squad to be a patrol squad and these are going to be recognized within Breevan regiments with a "spear head" on right shoulder pad (well, it doesn't look like what I originally intended but it's as close to it as I could get ): My squad is currently composed of three men from command squad of 13th platoon (Lt. Baine (as captain), MSg. Everett and Garrick (as Lt.'s) and men from two other squads from 13th platoon. And here a close-up on Sgt. Tyler Slade and two of his men from squad 131. And Sgt. Slade once again, with one of his men. As to aerosledge: - Mordheimer wrote:

Oh yes, thats definitely true (tried to cut a little bit bigger angle on the model and it looks much better. Now I am also thinking about giving it sentinel-like "face". Still have to decide about the propulsion though. I'll try to update the model and add the options I have in mind, so I can hear your opinions.

| They look VERY nice! Especially the lettering! Painting in white is VERY difficult, because all light is reflected (duh... it is white!) but you pulled it off nicely! The white does not look flat in most areas... cool indeed! The black could use some definition (it is the 2nd hardest tone to paint) because it absorbs all light (duh... it is black!)... maybe the basing would help... especially if it is snow (white). You know how to make snow? Fairly easy... some watered down PVA Glue (so it is gooey, not runny) and then sprinkle baking soda on it. Works like a champ! More pics! Thanks for sharing your art with us! | |

Thanks. I am mixing the white with a little drop of grey (can't say the exact ratio). I once tried to work with pure white and it ended really awful. But I think the white is much better on the pics then in reality - this yellow light is making it less flat (unfortunately for my painting skills ) - Mordheimer wrote:

Yes, I am not happy with the black myself, but for now it's enough... I'll try to work on it on other models perhaps. - Mordheimer wrote:

Thanks for this recipe. I was going to buy the GW or GF9 snow flock (or what they call it), but this will be probably cheaper I'll give it a try.

| The squad is looking great.
In regards to making it snow (not that we need any more where I live) I have had mixed results with Mordheimer's method. It looks like nice fresh powder but the baking soda keeps rubbing off, and I am afraid that varnishing it would ruin the effect.
Also your snow machine looks awesome, if you didn't want to build it from scratch you could look at picking up one of these.

| Unfortunatelly not. I am just not in mood for hobby right now. But that will pass soon (I hope) and then I will finish the squad and then start to work on the machine. | |

| Good job on the sculpting. The navy officer is looking good. I am impressed with how you are taking time to layer the details. It looks really good. | |

| The torso of Navy Officer was actually casted with InstantMold, the legs are my own creation, as well as epaulletes on his shoulders. | |

| Aaaaaaaand an update! The initial squad is almost finished - well at least the painting, I still have to base all the models. And make backpack for almost all of them. I made some changes for the unit shoulderpad insignia - it will show rank. For privates, there is one stripe Sergeant will have one stripe with one or two dots next to it (Sergeant or Master Sergeant), Lieutenants will carry two stripes with 0-2 dots (depending on the "subrank"), Captains are to have a ring painted on their shoulderpad (maybe with some stripes) and Colonels a skull. Commanding officers in the field (regimental, company or platoon leaders) are to be decorated with the seal of command and/or other insignia. Please, I am not really good at military ranks - I tried to do some research on the internet but... you know... It's really a mess So any help with this would be welcome! The squad now finally has a medic. Meet Will Weston! Also the leader - Lieutenant Bastian Baine is now ready for some action... Well - almost. I still have to finish the powersword. I was thinking about using the red (instead of more traditional blue). But I really have no idea how to make the proper power-weapon effect. But I'll check some threads on this forum I believe Laney did some nice powerswords for his squads. And there is a group photo: I have to repaint the insignia on some of them. Also I have to change the helmet of the heavy weapon specialist to match the style of others. And there are some finishing touches here and there. Plus basing... And trying to make a winter themed terrain to put them on | |

| Brilliant! The medic, the captain and the guy with the red moustche with the grey tuque (i.e knit cap or beanie or you UK/US folks out there.) are by far the best. Dwi | |

| Very cool work! Love the idea of rank on the shoulder pad. BRAVO! Yes, Laney did a very cool tutorial on Power Weapons... but the undisputed has to be Komfritten (sorry Laney!) and his Grey Knights (LINK) Don't forget to based the models! | |

Yeah, I know... But... Well... It may take some time... But I'll work on it, don't worry... - Mordheimer wrote:

Both of them are really cool. I love Komfrittens technique (airbrushing makes some really cool effects). I have to do some more research on it though. Anyway - do you think I should go for the red sword? It would be a real contrast to the white&blue color of the uniforms... Or should I stick with traditional blue? Just need some other opinions...

| I could try to make some red swords so you have something to compare to?
Should it be red as darkest and yellow as brigtest? or what was your idea?

| I'd start with a dark red and build through mephiston red, evil sunz scarlet to blazing orange, golden yellow and tiny highlights of white (I don't think the lightning effect would work so well with this). I've done a force weapon in my 40k heroic and corrupted thread... Any use? (there is more depth in the actual weapon). Cheers Laney | |

It would be really cool if you did it (I love your work so seeing a new model or a part of it is always a pleasure ). What about some proper tutorial? @Laney: I went through your power weapon tutorial thread and the molten sword is something that I had in mind. And its great plus is that it uses drybrush which is much easier than blending or painting a little lighning bolts
