| Hi Guys I'm thinking of painting my IG squad in this scheme...bit different to the norm I know, but I fancied doing something a bit out of the ordinary for them. This one's also got my first attempts at highlighting =/ | |

| I like it, looks kinda russian.
Your highlights look good too.
Critique: I kinda wonder what it would look like if you started with a white or gray primer instead. The dark primers always make red look kinda muddy in my opinion unless you do like a bazillion coats. If you did a gore red over the white primer then did a black wash. I usually repaint my gore red after the was also in the higher spots then use your blood red.

| I love it. My favorite colours. Black and/or Red. The muddy look as noted by dysturbed, is in my opinion cool, since what doesn't get muddy in the 34th millennia? The colourscheme is one I like, but I find it difficult to have dark, as in black, minis stand out. I haven't got any IG's, so it is easier for me to add bling-bling like dwarf-bronze details to chains, etc. and where there are no metal to be painted, I try to use red linings for instance on shoulderpads. What you do seem fine to me. The question remains; How will a full unit look on the table in a dim smokefilled room. Will they recieve a +1 in natural cover perhaps? Again, I DO really like it. It hasn't got that peculiar disney coloured comic-book look. [Waiting for someone to publish a picture of a pink Space Marine, that I can, and will, purify with my Mastercrafted +1 Flamer] | |

| I've got a can of white undercoat around here somewhere, I might try a white base coat with one & see how it turns out =]
I'm debating whether to add a design of some kind to the shoulder pads...I'm still working on my fluff for the Squad, so I'll worry about that afterwards lol Especially as this Guy's still a WIP
I've only just started using washes etc...so I have no idea how they work really...up until now, the only technique I really used was drybrushing...so everything's a steep learning curve! I've got a Sigvald the Magnificent staring at me, pleading with me to paint him, but I don't think I could quite do it justice yet =[
Those Spare Marine's crack me up every time! XD

| most washes mix them 1:1 with water or they will be way to strong. But GW washes id mix 2:1 with water as they are really strong. Especially black. | |

| The was wrong... I will make a note NEVER post anything 'funny' that I may regret someone make a reality. Now.... for the important thing. The color scheme looks good. I know your model is a WiP test... so I would make my critique based on that. To complete the illusion, you need a base that is NOT part of the model's color. That way the observer's eyes focus on the right things, and their mind is tricked. I would suggest a simple scheme... small-grain sand (you could ether paint it brown and highlight sand or leave 'natural') and 1 or 2 clumps of green static grass. Nothing fancy. Make sure you paint the border of the base brown (the same share as the sand). This will break the dark (black) of the model and will brighten the model, without making it... errrr... pink. Last, the next picture... take it from 6" farther away. It seems that you actually painted face details (GREAT!) but the f-stop of your camera made the focus be on the background... the guy looks kindda spooked! Here is a good article of miniature photography that can help you! On washes... I prefer Vallejo Paints and Inks. Good luck.. and THANKS for sharing! | |

| When I posted the pic, I was expecting people to say the scheme looked terrible or too simple! hehe how wrong I was! That's the style of base I was planning on, just as soon as I find my tub of sand (I take a couple years break from GW hobbies & everything ends up all over the house!) I've got my static grass & stone chips ready to hand though lol I have no idea what colours to do the equipment he has on his belt...the knife, water canteen & grenades...was thinking of grey as a base...but I don't know whether that would look odd or not =/ I've managed to get a new camera! One with an auto focus feature which is much easier! Still working out how to use it, but believe me, it's already much better than my last one! I'll bear the 6" in mind with my next pic Unfortunately, the face isn't all that detailed, just Dwarf Flesh, washed with Ogryn Flesh, then highlighted (badly) with Elf flesh. Then standard white & black eyes. | |

| chaos black all the areas that will be painted metallic. Metallics always do best with a coat of black underneath. I'd do a 1:1 mix of codex grey & black on all the plastic/wood pieces the highlight those with 2:1 codex grey & black mix. Tht way it kinda looks like a composite gun like this. ^bad ass gun AA-12 fully automatic shotgun can shoot grenade rounds full auto! then hit the metal parts with boltgun metal then highlight that with a little mithril silver where the light hits. | |
