The Resurrection of Cap'n Johns Case, Updated 03/10/15

SO...a few years ago the display case where Cap'n John stored the various Fantasy Folk I painted for him over a number of years had a house of cards moment. That is the top shelf had one edge drop down to the shelf below with its load of minis sliding to the lower shelf. Not to be outdone, the second shelf tipped down to the third shelf depositing two shelves of minis there. This proceeded until the case ran out of shelves. WELL...I got the shelves straightened out, deposited the wandering minis in a random way on the offending shelves, AND vowed I would get the pieces sorted out, touched up, repaired where needed, & hit all those glossy (gloss finish was my thing way back when) minis with a nice matte coat.

Came this New Year's Eve AND I finally fulfilled my vow...the fulfilling part took two days, six cans of Testor's DullCote, & one can of Krylon Matte. I figure that this MONUMENTAL task should be recorded for posterity along with subjecting you, My Dear Forumites, to a horde of horrid photos. ERGO:

I had one just like this. I gave to a local gaming store...they had it for 4 years but I just heard they went out of business. And no more

Thanks, Amigo! Cap'n John converted a rifle case into his display case...added the mirror, glass shelves, & lights. It really is quite a nice piece of furniture...the minis like it.  

The minis now have a place to hang out and get some fresh air.

It would be nice to see them involved in some game or other...I'm not sure if Cap'n John is up to that anymore. Be that as it may, I'll try to get the minis out for at least long enough for some closeup photos. I was surprised how well some of the pieces have stood up under the test of time.  

some of those models have aged better than me.

They've all aged better than moi...the only time there was any comparison was when they were missing pieces. Reality sucks though!  

One of the Fellows from Lead Adventure Forum for some reason or other asked for a BBQ Group Photo. Well...I had this one in Cap'n Johns Imploding Display Case; SO I snapped a couple of mediocre pics. Now that I'm planning on adding some close ups of my handiwork in his collection I thought I'd post them.







I was motivated to buy some Old Harlequin Dwarfs from Black Tree simply because the ones I did for The Cap'n looked SO COOL. I'll try to get some photos of them & some other motivational pieces up soon.

Always great to see such an amount of painted mini's! At home I mostly see them in plain grey or metal.

Actually even counting the stuff in Cap'n John's Case, I have many more unpainted or just primed & based minis than painted ones...it's the nature of the Beasty.  

Haha really? Then you really have a lot to paint!

Cap'n John owns more than 90% of the minis here, but he hasn't paint anything in years. That aside between the two of us we came up with about 15,000 minis in backlog...7,000 of them are the Cap'n's Hinchliffe Napoleonics.
