| EDIT: As requested, as tutorials merged. ENJOY!!! Hi All, Here is the recipe for my urban fighters camo with a few pics to give you the idea... Undercoat Chaos Black (Undercoat spray is fine on plastics, but you'll need to base coat metal models with paint). Drybrush/Overbrush with Adeptus Battlegrey (leave the deepest recesses black). (I did this on the armour and cloth parts, but you could use a contrasting colour) Wash armour with Badab Black (or Devlan Mud depending on taste). Edge the armour only with Fortress Grey. On each armour plate paint random splodges of Fortress Grey (this is a good way of tidying up inaccurate edging), ensuring that you only paint a 'splodge' on one part of the armour. IMPORTANT: Don't continue a 'splodge' from one armour section onto another part of the armour/cloth or the camo will look false and you will lose definition on the model. Next using a 1:1 (roughly) mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey to create darker camo splodges. Finally, spot small amounts of Astronomicon Grey on the armour and your done! This GW Article has loads of other camo ideas... http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?community=&catId=cat210004&categoryId=600003&aId=2400008 Ork Example... Base Coat: Knarloc Green (Wash Black and Green) Snakebite Leather Splodges Gretchin Green Splodges Rotted Flesh Flashes (Sorry for using the same pics as I've posted before) Cheers Laney | |

| Sneaky Arachas, very sneaky! I'll see what I can do - but you'll have to wait for the last couple of my orks and the chinork to be finished for the full rundown. I do have an 'Ard Boy I could paint soonish with a camo pattern (I was thinking a dark tiger stripe pattern). Watch this space... Laney | |

| Finally got something to show you! The recipe for this camouflage is... Undercoat: Black Basecoat: Charadon Granite Wash: 50:50 mix Ogryn Flesh/Devlan Mud Camo 1: Catachan Green Camo 2: Camo Green Camo 3: Gretchin Green (No edge highlights - I think that works better on IG armour than orks) Another mud wash will probably work well! If anyone has any cool camo painting recipes or pics please post! Cheers Laney | |

| Thanks a lot Laney. Not sure if I'll ever use camouflage as a painting technique but it is always useful to have a resource to check out.
Great work on the albino - I'll add further comments in on that topic. | |

| It looks seriously cool on your pics... but when I tried it, the Gretchin Green came out all funky-disco looking. Of course, I didn't really HAVE GG... so I mixed Goblin Green with... I dunno... Rotting Flesh, I think. Didn't work. The camo green is quite vicious, too. But I think the secret lies in applying SMALL patches, right? Thanks man! I want more! | |

| Thanks Guys, Arachas: Devlan Mud - great for toning down a paint job and making it look all dirty (I'll probably do that for this guy too). Goblin is probably a little bright - maybe catachan with a healthy dose of rotting flesh to make it paler (then at least it is another tone in roughly the right place). Small patches definitely look better and you can always add more. I might do some urban or varangian camo next if I get time - the albino needs more paint! Laney | |

| Varangian! But without the funky colors you use. What the hell is Deneb Stone? lol... I never got into the 'newer' GW colors. I'm old-fashioned... | |

| Try a mix of khemri brown and bleached bone (about 1:3) - should be ok, particularly as khemri is part of the Varangian Gamma mix anyway. Cheers Laney | |

| These are a couple figs I painted awhile ago trying to test different schemes. I went with a peadot pattern similar to a wwii german scheme. The scheme is fairly simple to do. Im not going to list exact manufacturers colors because I tend to mix alot of my paints and use various manufacturers paints. 1. Paint the entire area in a yellow ochre color 2. Paint the brown splotches in irregular blob shapes and place small dots randomly around 3. Same as above but use a dark green color 4. Using a light green place small dots in the green area 5. The model on the left also has lighter yellow ochre spots 6. Using inks or washes apply a pin wash to the folds. Not I do not wash the entire area only in the recesses 7. Use a sand or bone white apply a thin highlight to the very edges of the crease. Do not over do this stage or you will ruin the camo pattern Then paint the remaining areas of the model. I usually choose a solid color to provide something for the eyes to focus on unless I am painting moderns or something more accurate to real life. | |

| NICE models!!! Very unusual cammo... by the description I would have laughed and bet money it would look horrible. I would not only lost the bet, but as I see how SPECTACULAR your models look, I would have had to pay someone to surgically remove my foot from my mouth! Really... this cammo is good too! One day you should make a tutorial of your own! | |

| I've got two squads of Cadians that I'm wanting to paint in urban camo. I did a test paint and everything looked fine. Then I gave it a black wash and it completely ruined the camo. One of these tutorials says to wash the base coat then paint on the camo. The other says to apply the wash directly into the creases and folds. Which do you think is the better method? | |

| That depends. Doomie's camo is a proper expert effort and advises a pin wash in the folds and looks great. My methods usually require a wash over the basecoat, because that requires a lower skill level to get working right, however a heavy handed camo over the top can ruin the effect of depth. Washing after the camo is complete would probably work best if it was a very thinned down wash, otherwise it will obscure the camo (I wouldn't recommend it). Black washes are often used and might be a little heavy handed over the pale colours.
Don't know if this helps at all
