Yet another tutorial involving the 8th. wonder of the known world: sugar!!
This time it is used for basing your precious miniatures.
The idea came when i was making some terrain for Mordheim and needed something cheap for the bases. Ordinary modeling sand is always so expensive and beachsand is just to fine and filled with seaweed... So, what could my twisted mind come up with...
aha sugar!
It's cheap and is perfect for these kind of things.
Anyways, enough chitchat. On with the pictures:
All you need is PVA glue, sugar and the bases(duh)
First you apply a thinned layer of PVA glue and then you just pour sugar over it.
Let it dry, prime it and start painting.
Usually I just give it a basecolour and then drybrush with a lighter shade. Easy as pie

Here's the terrain that i experimented on first. I mixed some normal modeling gravel with the sugar to get some variation:
