| With all the hype about 3D printing I thought I should try it out on a super simple basis. So I begun playing around with an idea about some simple terrain. The whole thing evolved and has, so far, ended up being not so simple after all. I wanted something I could cast myself and that could make different sizes and shapes. So a modular hab block was the way to go. I started out with simple walls and added different connectors depending on how long and how many levels the building should have. Okay I'm way too tired to go into the details right now so I'll just throw some screenshots up: There's about 13 different components in this building. A closeup some of the components | |

| They are becoming alot cheaper for a home one. In comparison of the 90,000 dollar models that big companies use they are coming out with ones that will be around 1000. And if you are a inventor and can keep it busy prototyping stuff it would be well worth the investment. Also this is a amazing idea mudboy. Sign me up when you start getting them made. They make something similar to these obviously without the rivets that we use for making foamcore signs. I can't remember the name of the company or anything but I think it would do most of what you have there. | |

| mudboy: WOW! You opened a new world for me; TinkerCAD. You have given me LOTS to think about. THANKS! Dysturbed: I'm VERY interested in 3D Printing. Check out MakerBot... they broke the $500 barrier. They have a dual extraction large capacity Printer for $1,500. As a matter of fact (and I'm VERY serious)... if you are into CAD and want to put SERIOUS energy... I want to start a business. I have the 'drive'... but I need someone that dominates CAD. PM me... we talk. | |

| @Gatlag; No I don't but there's lot's of company's that print relatively cheap. I don't think I'll be buying my own printer any time soon as I'm still only playing around with 3D design on a "LOL-I-can-make-a-dollhouse" level. The Tinkercad program is one of the most simple and details can only go down to 1mm. A marine or guardsman torso would need much smaller detail. The plan is to get two of each component printed and then cast them in resin to keep the cost down. - Mordheimer wrote:
