| Infinity almost caught me in its grip (and may still - the system looks pretty cool). But, Kromlech's conversion bits won the day for a new death squad: The ultimate orky kommandos... Da Green Devils are back! The basic bits for the squad are...
- A box of plastic ork nobs
- A box of plastic orks
- (I also have a bunch of bits left from other projects) - some burna boz/loota bits and a couple of storm boyz bits
The extra stuff I've got coming is...
- FW ork kommando conversion kit (from ebay)
- Kromlech OW2 sten gun (5) /bren gun (1) set
- Kromlech OW2 orc commando heads (10)
- Kromlech OW2 kneeling legs (3)
- Kromlech OW2 backpacks (6)
I haven't bought the ork kommando box, because a) I don't want to send finecast rubbish back 2/3 times b) I want each model to be a unique kitbash. Nothing to show because it's all in the post at the minute. Cheers Laney

| And seriously: could you post your opinions on Infinity? I am VERY curious to hear more about it, as I scanned the rules but never played it. Could be holding some useful stuff for a future DS release, eh? | |

| Soon - when I get the stuff!
On infinity, I watched the video tutorial and it seemed to be very open tactically and the different races appeared balanced. I also loved the number of times I saw the 'It's not your list, it's the way you're playing' thing crop up. A lot less honing lists and tactical freedom was very appealing.
That is something we can perhaps learn from infinity - more fluff (plenty of range), less power (power gaming sucks IMHO) - or at least a balance of power.
On a models note - I lost out on the forgeworld kit on ebay - so I may just hone my greenstuff skills a little more instead.

Cheers Laney I am open for everything that advances playing style and tactics over listbuilding.

| A quick update (but no pics - batteries dead on my camera)...
I've built three ork kommandos (recruits) - 2 with sten guns and 1 with a bren gun. I also have a fourth work in progress ork boy. I'm going to paint these guys up before building the officers...

| Very nice. I like the backpacks. Great job on the greenstuff gas mask. One of my favorite things to sculpt too! I really like the heavy weapon gun too. Looking forward to seeing them painted up.
This really makes me want to convert more orks! Ahhhhh.

| Pics - not huge progress - but the main squad and six extra boyz are complete (16 in all). I had a disaster during undercoating - I left them to dry for a day or so in the shed and something (I blame spiders! - they are like wolves in my shed!) had tipped the entire tray up from the very precarious position I had so thoughtfully left them in - they smashed on the floor and I had to fix five out of the fourteen I undercoated, plus I have lost one of the ard boyz somewhere in the shed (taken as a prisoner by those bloody spiders! - I only found his shoota). So, I rebuilt them and have just started on playing with different skin tones - my Snikrot (Shank Riprot) model has my favourite colour scheme - but I will mix and match to stop me getting bored. Flash Git, Shank Riprot (Big Boss) and Sneaky Boss Snaga Skarfang (now with a power klaw) The Ard Boyz (the stormboy/kommando was too cool a model to leave out - hence his promotion) My two Kommandos Painboy, Ork Boy and Burna Boy (I need the early benefits of a flamer) Other Ork Boyz (various)... to be added to the squad as we go. Any feedback welcome (not all of the skintones are finished) Laney:D | |

| Very nice! I also like Shank Riprot the best! Sweet painting on him! What do you use for your primer? | |

| Thanks Gatlag - the primer is Humbrol Acrylic Spray (Matt Grey Primer) - great coverage even on metal and gives an easier surface to paint than black.

| It looks indeed nice! I tend to use white primer on my latest models, but this is sure one to try out as well! | |

But the Flash Git's(?) gun is much too long imo.

| I see what you mean (especially in that picture, where the snikrot model is very hunched over and sneaky) - I was going for cartoony long when I built him.
The idea with him is that he is carrying a sniper rifle (hence the great length even compared to regular orks). His view is the longer the barrel the more accurate his shooting is! (What would Freud say?!)

| My Boss WIP - Most of the khaki and leather bits done and the knife blades, grenades in progress (the white one is now a checked pattern) and boots and base not touched yet. The green lenses are finished and I was looking for a 'stolen from necron' look - it had the look of one of those necron spider things and reduced the range of colours. The flash makes the colours very harsh - I'll do some Mord Friendly photos once I'm done with him. Laney:D | |

| Tons of character, love it.
I barely see any mouldlines. I always struggle with those, how do you deal with them?

| Cheers Arachas - this is a great sculpt (probably the best and most 'orky' of all). Mouldlines on this (metal model) were a huge pain in the backside - I used the edge of an exacto blade (with the blade pointed towards the model to scrape off the mouldlines and remove the worst flash etc), where they are too deep I carefully run the blade along (blade at right angles to the model surface) the mouldline to cut it off - but be careful not to cut too deep.
On plastic models (and finecast and resin), I would typically only use the edge of a blade and a pair of tiny cutters (not the GW ones they are massive) to remove sprue gates - I have cut myself too many times using a blade for this, that I even purchased some kevlar gloves (if only so my wife didn't have to hear me cursing on my way to the first aid kit every other night!).
Mouldlines are one of the greatest evils of modelling!
