- Cheers Arachas - this is a great sculpt (probably the best and most 'orky' of all). Mouldlines on this (metal model) were a huge pain in the backside - I used the edge of an exacto blade (with the blade pointed towards the model to scrape off the mouldlines and remove the worst flash etc), where they are too deep I carefully run the blade along (blade at right angles to the model surface) the mouldline to cut it off - but be careful not to cut too deep.
On plastic models (and finecast and resin), I would typically only use the edge of a blade and a pair of tiny cutters (not the GW ones they are massive) to remove sprue gates - I have cut myself too many times using a blade for this, that I even purchased some kevlar gloves (if only so my wife didn't have to hear me cursing on my way to the first aid kit every other night!).
Mouldlines are one of the greatest evils of modelling!
Laney:D First aid kit? Keep some duct or electrical tape and a paper towel with your modeling stuff. Wear each scar like a badge and remember, every cut is one scar closer to a callous.

I'm trying to decide which chaos god you worship, but I think you must be a Dark Eldar. Mould lines are the worst. Especially on metal models. They almost completely put me off working with metal models. The sneaky boss looks good. I really like that model. I am looking forward to seeing the final product. How long do you take to paint a model like this?

| @Da Bank - All GW's work - Snikrot is all kitted out already (one of the few models that shouldn't be converted). The paintjob so far has taken me about three nights of very slow painting. I picked up a box of savage orcs from a local store (which incidently had a copy of the limited edition dark vengeance left - so I spent more than I should!) - the idea being I'd make a weirdboy and ended up making this ork ninja (assassin) hired gun... | Very nice. I like how you add the different bits to make him more tech savvy.
The straps around the bits and very well done. What technique did you use to make them? Shaped a thin tubs of greenstuff or flattened it and then applied it to the model?

| Thanks to your vaseline tip it is much easier to do than before (the short answer is flattened then applied)...
Place vaseline on a clean surface, put the greenstuff blob on top and use a clay shaper to flatten the GS. Let it cure for between half an hour and an hour and then cut into strips using an exacto blade - it still has enough give to shape if you need to.
I plan to paint him wearing a very dark black (dark blue highlighted) so it looks like he is wearing a syn skin suit, with only his lower jaw and hands painted in green.

| The boyz look sharp. The one with the bow and explosive arrowheads is probably my favorite. Reminds me of first blood 2 only greener. Nice. The heavy with the rpg looks solid too. Great build on his launcher. | |

| He's awsome! Only thing I would consider, is the "eyes". Being the same colours as the skin (almost) they do not stand out Laney style as (imo) they should.
Red, yellow or even blue would make them stand out much more.

| I agree with Komfritten on the colour of the Snikrot's lenses. The green isn't demanding attention. I'd recommend red for a couple of reasons. First off the complimentary colour running against the greens will give you the most "bang for your buck". The other reason being you already have some reds on his combat knife that look quite striking. The lens are small and shouldn't add to the blood so much that it overwhelms. The red will still work as a spot. | |

| I've got a flash git (with added plasma) soon to be finished - hopefully the next day or so (definitely a two day paint job), then to the kommandos. Thanks for the feedback guys - it is definitely useful to know what works and what doesn't. On the eyes I would usually go with red for lenses or maybe blue (though blue is plasma/power sword glow typically). However in this case the green was part of the paint design for the model - I was after a look which blended (rather than adding a high contrast spot colour like red, which I used elsewhere) and suggested looted necron tech (hence the green and silver of old school necrons). Maybe on the next Snikrot I could do something like glowing blue lenses and no backpack, with a black synskin suit. Laney | |

| Maybe yellow eyes? It would stand out better.
Awesome painting. I've got the feeling you're improving. Which isn't good, because then you're awesome at converting, modeling AND painting... which would give you SuperDev powers... oh Lord.

| I think the lenses are exceptionally well painted. The non-contrasting green looks very different. They don't pop in the same way they would if they were another colour but they are still a focal point of the model. I like them. | |

| Cheers gents - all feedback is good feedback! Here is the work in progress of the flash git - note the new plasma gun! Edit: Yellow is an interesting idea for gems/lenses. I've never done a yellow before. I won't do it for RipRot, but maybe trial it on my next Orky Kommando. Cheers Laney Cheers Laney:D | |
