Narcissus: I'll see what I can do about the knife hand on the renegade (he's IG now!). I agree that backpack across the army is the way to go - it adds something to the models.

The orange and blue is a brave color scheme to attempt, and yours looks great! Lots of character in this squad but they all look uniformly from the same unit. Great job.

Wow, just wow. Wish I could do something like that, that squad looks ridiculously good.

Right, I've been busy trying to put all my IG together into a recognisable 40k army (3 squads, plus a mix of single painted, part painted minis and a load of unpainted too). A couple more squads and some vehicles (plus loads of painting) and I'll be there!

Laney... you are the living example that playing can lead to making a 40k Army! HA! This is awesome. When I go to the UK to visit you (hell... I can dream!) you better have an X-Ray machine handy... I may swallow some of your models!^* BTW... how many 40k points is that? Around 500 points of IG (hehehehe...)?

^* Mordheimer Rule #33: Anything the Mordheimer manages to swallow belongs to the Mordheimer!

As these guys will be mostly vets, penal legion (might need some new models for that!) and stormtroopers, all I need is a few transports to make 1500 points. I have plans to buy some chimeras, valkyrie and a battleforce with a few forgeworld goodies to upgrade (this will probably be my christmas present!).

I've got a thunderbolt (needs a little polystyrene glue), warhound (needs a leg fixing) and shadowsword in the shed as well for apocalypse games.

Part One
The steady thud of artillery shells could be heard loud and clear through the metres of thick ferrocrete above them.
'Hells bells!' cried Colonel Biggins, 'they are here already!'
The Colonel sat behind an ornate Okewood desk, with four dirty looking guardsmen slouched in front of him, two with lieutenant pips and the others with sergeant flashes.
'No Sir,' replied Lieutenant George, in his typical deadpan voice. 'That's an Earthshaker. No Ork ordnance sounds like that, too consistent. From the Kharian 88th, if I'm not mistaken. They are are trying to halt the Ork advance.'
'And you've led them straight to us!' snapped Biggins accusingly. Sweat dripped off his brow as his eyes flicked up to the dust drifting down from the ferrocrete of the ceiling. Colonel Biggins was anything but a warrior, weak chinned, with a potbelly which hung above comically thin legs. He was only a Colonel from paying for his rank, rather than through the value of his actions on the battlefield.
George looked at him with cold, shark eyes, unimpressed by the craven in front of him.
Biggins tried to return the stare and failed turning to shuffle his paperwork.
'You still have your weapons! Why did you not relinquish them at the bunker entrance as per my standing order? Get them off!'
George simply hefted his Plasma gun but did not reply.
Lieutenant Bull cut in on his behalf, 'because, Sir, the Imperial Guardsman Primer strictly prohibits any guardsman regardless of rank from losing his firearm within a warzone or suffer summary execution by the Commissariat.'
The Colonel blustered at that, before replying 'Well, at least that's one order you have followed! You were ordered to fall back to this position in good order and with all haste. This bunker is vital to the protection of this section of the line...'
'Vital to the protection of your skin,' murmured Sergeant Baldrick.
'What was that!' screeched the Colonel, his face turning purple, 'Insolent dog! How dare you! I'll have you shot!'
'Sir,' said Lieutenant Bull calmly, 'we followed your order to the letter. Soldiers of your regiment had been cut off due to the retreat order you gave, having been under the impression we were advancing. Our platoons created an opportunity for those soldiers to rejoin the regiment and carry out an orderly fighting retreat.'
'And, in doing so you have brought the Orks main fighting force into our lap! Your actions have turned my tactical retreat into a full blown rout!' shouted the Colonel.
'You mean that you don't intend to defend this position, sir?' asked Lieutenant George innocently.

Transcribers note:
Rabbithole was arguably the strongest defensible point of the Eastern Leodensian Front (some 500km in length). Less a bunker, more a fortress network, easily defended by a single regiment.

'No, I do not intend to hold here! Due to your actions this region is lost to us. The Orks of the Mottled Wun Waaagh! will be upon us before the days end. You four will be stripped of all rank and when the Commisariat hear my report you will likely face a firing squad.' said Biggins, 'Guards!'

I thought you might like an update on the expanding 41st and 95th/10th and 13th. I've purchased a cadian battleforce (this should be most of the extra infantry covered - as I am going for lots of veterans and penal legion troops), I might raid my empire bits box for militia and horses to make my penal legion and rough riders (that's for later though). The really cool stuff is the environmental suits from forgeworld (the meltas)


Plus a bunch of stuff from maxmini to make some cool veteran squads (this is Christmas early this year - Though I would love a valdor tank hunter)

10 of these for my vets - not arrived yet - should combine well with the forgeworld and cadian pieces

You can never have enough sniper rifles!

With this lot I hope to make three squads (plus special weapons etc.) and fill in the gaps in other squads. I'll have two more death squads along the way as well!

You are a great story teller! It is SO COOL! I want to shoot that Colonel Archibald Biggins myself! hehehe! You know you need to make TWO models for him.

1) Normal (playable) model. Don't forget his "potbelly which hung above comically thin legs". Superb description!
2) Diorama: Something like...

But the coward Biggins being the one legless (make sure we can still see his "comically thin legs") and your hero still trying to save him... sniff!

I would even take this...

@Arachas: I've not had a playable 40k army for about 3 years now (as in fully painted - otherwise it doesn't count). I can proxy an inquisition force, a blood angels or a chaos marine force (up to 1500 points) - but these are all part painted. I just love the idea of having fully painted armies even if I rarely play 40k - plus Valkyries are very cool (I'd happily have a squadron).

Nice models Laney. I am interested to see how the maxmini bits and the hostile environment bits look.

No maxmini bits yet - a tad annoyed as I've used up most of the cadian battleforce and have no more models left for the maxmini bits! (another cadian squad and catachan command squad should do it though). The forgeworld bits on the other hand arrived within days of the order being made. Anyway, I've been busy with what I had...
