Are you having technical issues or do you just mean how quiet it is?

| I feel you, Gatlag. Mord hasn't logged in since early Feburary, and I know his absence has affected the forum pretty drastically...
My actual hobby stuff doesn't come fast enough to feel like its worth it to post about very frequently, and the few times i've tried to post discussion type topics, they've been met with a comment or two, and then silence....
I feel bad not having jumped into this challenge, etc. but knew I wouldn't have the time or drive to see it through.
Any suggestions? Or do we just ride it out....

| Feeling the pain. Occasionally I check into the forums, just to see if theres anything happening. But it feels like DS has seem to have just...gone quiet. I know theres something to be said for getting it going, but it is pretty disheartening when the conversation just goes dead.
Ironically, it's at this time that Deathsquads has a real opportunity to grow. GW have made the decision to end support for the specialist games they've produced. So Mordheim, Necromunda, Inquisitor, BFG, Epic...when the last of those models have sold, they won't be supporting the game systems any more.
Which means that there will be a need for a small, squad based skirmish game. I know GW have attempted to provide for this with their adaption of 40k called "kill teams", but it doesn't allow for the same squad / gang procession that Death Squads does.
Part of the problem is that Death Squads is a game which has always struck me as working best in a campaign setting, similar to Necromunda. But our players are so widely scattered that there isn't really a chance. For example, I only know of one other DS player who is in my neck of the woods, and even then it's a two hour drive.
On top of that, the stats for the forums are misleading. Apparently we have over 2000 members, but it feels like most people who sign up do so just in order to download the rules. The community, therefore, is quite small, to the point where the absence of a few "key" forum posters, like mord, has the ability to kill the forum.
So what to do? I'm not sure. Post more, yes, but it's pretty disheartening when you post and yet theres no interaction, no feedback. It is like this competition. Met with an initial flurry of enthusiasm, but only a few post their results when the (second) deadline has passed. And then...nothing. Silence.
But I'm not really wanting to give up on DS. The system is fun. It recaptures the joy of 40K for me, and it inspired me to start creating and painting in a way I hadn't really considered. It'd be sad to see it just stop.

| I don't want to give it up, that's why it's so hard to see it like this. But on the other hand I also don't have the answer for a "turnover"... | |

| At the risk of sounding cheesy, no one individual has the answer for a "turnover" - rather it's something that will turnover if we work together.
yeesh, that did sound cheesy. But you get the idea. The more people post, the more activity we'll see.

| Absolutely Gents! Lets get creative. I'll need to pick up the paintbrushes (I've got very rusty in the last few months). I have an idea for a little something on the painting and modelling side of things that might help. A while back I floated the idea of developing an Inquisitorial Cadre for DS (including Radicals and Puritans). Maybe we could have a community thread as a way of drawing ideas for what should be in the squad? We could do this for the much more developed Tau squad as well. It's a pretty safe way share ideas and stays well away from rules discussions. Any use? Laney | |

| Laney-Very interesting idea. What about an event where we grouped together to make a squad as a community. It would be neat to make a strongly themed squad (ex. inquisitor band) as a group. Instead of building a full squad as an individual, we could work together to complete a themed squad that would only be together in the virtual world.
Here is a link to a similar idea: eternal hunt. In this post KrautScientist shows his work making an inquisitorial henchman for a game played in Britain.

| Great link - I've seen some of this stuff before and the quality is amazing. The good thing about doing this would be that anyone can chip in without feeling the need to complete under certain conditions. You could even broaden to include several inquisitors responsible for a sector (with people adding henchmen as they saw fit (all virtually of course), maybe a radical, puritan and something inbetween. Cheers Laney Mate, You put up the thread in the painting and modeling section, and I'd happily begin contributing! Being a fan of the game Inquisitor already, and feeling challenged by a lot of the inq28 thats out there, both on the web and in the WD Blanchitsu threads, I'd love to see this happen here on DS! Matt Agreed. I have some stuff I have been mulling over that would fit perfectly within this framework. | |
